There are numerous art forms, visual arts, performing arts, architectural art, literary art.... etc. I believe artists are greatly influenced by other art forms. Personally, I can't draw a straight line and I can't play ANY instruments but I do consider myself an artist because I create and manufacture a household appliance that is truly... Forever! I create it for others to enjoy and use.... and also to earn a living. I absolutely love and admire all other art forms. No matter the beauty of it, I'll love it just because someone put the energy and effort in completing it. Do you agree that anyone who creates things for others is an artist? and what DO YOU create? I believe that anyone that creates is an artist. It doesn't necessarily have to be done for someone else for it to be art. As an artist I find it difficult at times to create something specifically for someone else. I have to feel it to be able to do it. If they admire it and mention how they would like something like it I find I usually give them that piece. I record it before hand so I have a record for myself though. As for what I create the list is terribly long actually. I write poetry on occasion (I love words and playing with them), paint, draw, crochet, make quilts, build things, use clay and am up to trying almost any medium to create what I see in my head. I have used non traditional items in my designs such as hay, sand, beans, broken glass, shavings string, wire, fiberglass....another long list. I would love to create welded metal sculptures at some point. This is a mixed media design I created on a 5' fiberglass elk. Paint, broken glass, fiberglass and an adhesive were all used here. Wow!! BNJ, you are a very special woman! |

I'll share it here too. Charcoal sketch I did recently of Jill Banner taken from the Spider Baby DVD cover. Charcoal's too messy, but for doing quick sketches I prefer it over regular pencil.

Uwe Max Jensen, a 44-year-old Danish performance artist, has painted a recreation of the famous butt photo using his penis as a brush. "I have my penis in one hand and the canvas in the other," Jensen told the Daily Dot. "I have a very skilled penis, art-wise." |

Anyone who thinks photography is not art.. or that using a computer is 'cheating' because "it does everything for you" really does not know very much about either art or computers..
I'm afraid their view of art is rather narrow.. That's like saying a writer or poet is not an artist because he/she uses a typewriter or word processor. Or that a musician is cheating because he/she uses an electric guitar instead of a violin.. Art does not have to come from the 'mind' either.. art can be totally feeling and emotion based.. Sweeping the street or even brushing your teeth can be art. Art is how you do life... |
