Have a date that was a real big FAIL?? Share.
Last night I went on my first "date" since seperating. The man I went out with is about my age and lives by a friend of mine. I have had casual conversations with him here & there for months. He asked me to go out to dinner. He took me to a place that serves mostly HUGE hunks of meat entrees. It was noisy and service was slow. He tells me he & his buddies like to eat there. (??) So, while waiting for food, he tells me that he prefers dating women a lot younger than me, and he didn't want to take me to the place he usually takes them because he didn't want to run into any of them. He talked right over me about dating younger women and so I asked him why he asked me out then. He told me that he didn't feel like sitting at home alone. WOW!!! I stood up,told him he could sit here alone and left. Nice welcome back to the dating world...NOT!!! |

Well, there is that old saying about "kissing a few frogs".
You have that one out of the way. |

I hope you got a doggy bag.

What a jerk. I would have ordered the most expensive steak on the menu and then when it arrived I would ask for a doggy bag and then leave. I would tell him my dog is really going to appreciate this.

Summary of some horrible dates I remember:
1. The guy shows up and looks at me and asks, "Is THAT what you are going to wear? .. and he made me change. Then, he took me to his apartment and wanted me to wash the dishes and fix him something to eat! OMG! I told him to take me home. 2. The guy was a chain smoker and an obsessive poker player. He couldn't stand not having a cigarette in his mouth all the time and all he talked about was playing poker. It was all he thought about and all he talked about. He talked about how it ruined his marriage and job. It was all he wanted to do. He was totally completely addicted to poker. 3. The guy had an obsessive eating disorder and although he took me out to eat, I could see that he was terrified of the food. He failed to tip the waitress and afterwards he went someplace and vomited the food up. The next day I went back and gave a tip to the waitress. I knew those people and it was embarrassing that he did not leave them a tip. I apologized for him. |

Yep, that has pretty well been my experience with men too saying they usually dated younger women, and one guy said prettier women. Made me feel frigging wonderful. I found guys my age to be little children who are selfish, egotistical, liars; and a complete waste of space. I kept telling myself there will be someone better out there but after 15 years of failed dates; I am done. I don't have the energy to babysit anymore men. Wish the hell they would grow up. |

So true. There are so many horrible possibilities out there, if a man really wanted to impress any woman or have all the women he wanted, he would only have to know a few simple things and women would be all over him. He would not have much competition to stand out in a crowd. |

If I could be any crueler, I'd excuse myself saying I need to use the ladies room, and then I'll make a getaway without him knowing. Block him from my phone so when he calls, he won't reach me. Life's too short to waste it on stupidity. |

It has been a very very long time since I dated. I have only been married once, was married to the same man for -- years. I am sure a lot of things have changed, but basic courtesy should still be around. I wouldn't talk about my ex on a date and don't want to hear about all the other YOUNGER women he's dated. I am old fashioned enough to think it's very tacky.
I am sure there are many really wonderful guys of all ages out there. I am not men bashing at all. I just think a date should be about two people getting to know each other. I refuse to settle for being an excuse to not sit at home. I believe I deserve better than that. |

You can always shut a man up with sex.....it's an option. There is always the sexual tension getting in the way of getting to know a person. Once I tried exactly that, just to get it out of the way and save a lot of time. It worked. We had sex right away and discovered we didn't care to get to know each other. And the sex was lousy, so we didn't have that either. It was the first and last date. Saved us both a lot of time and money. |
