No, I don't rate, categorize or hold anyone
to MY standards.
I hold them to theirs.

do you accept their standards in them even if what they allow for themselves is behavior that you don't tolerate for yourself

that's a tough question

so like knowing "what I want" in a man - I also don;t always know my benchmarks until I see them

If somebody doesn't know their benchmarks ahead of time then they're open for anyone. I believe you should give everybody a chance to show 'who they are', but without your preplanned goals, that only leaves you open for mistake after mistake.

I think I have a few benchmarks, but I guess my biggest one is to try and treat people the same way I treat them. Sometimes I deserve what I get ,sometimes not so much, but hopefully if I do screw up I can own up to it.

That's not as much of a benchmark as it's really character. IMO character count's for MOST!

In art (drawing/painting/music/dance/etc), I meant that comparing yourself as a determination of how good you are (or aren't) is lowering yourself because there is no right or wrong. I'm not saying that you can't appreciate other's and help expand YOUR OWN. But, judging your own worth by their thoughts is apples and oranges. Unless of course you want to copy them. In that case, you've already lost your bar.

i just don't understand what standards are being lowered.
there are no standards.
you don't compare anything to see which is 'better.'
you look at every piece with a clean slate.
therefore, no standards.

Sometimes, people are better off not knowing where exactly thoughts in my melon seep out......

I've had friends in/around Columbus for a LONG time (it's only a 3 hour drive from me) and oh-my, the creatures I've seen there. There was this ONE time in Amish country with an xzylophone and a '63? Dodge van/pickup while playing a gig with one band I was connected with...... You just don't wanna know the details....... *Disclaimer.....NO platypus were harmed in ANY way! FYI, yes, there used to be a platypus or two at the Columbus zoo.

I have benchmark I just don't know what it is or met anyone that would define it. Maybe it's too high?

i'm sure you know what you would put up with and what you won't. being married before can be difficult when looking for someone. your benchmark has already been compromised in the failed relationship, and sometimes that affects the way you see potential mates. you remember how "she" used to act and if you see signs of that behavior in someone else it is an immediate turn off. in a sense your benchmark has been raised

I haven't found anybody I like to see what my benchmark is. I know they need brains, sense of humour, independent but what else I don't know. Kitten would be good I think, but she loves gearhead! I think she is representative of what I term "attractive."
Awwwwwwwwe Robert, how sweet!flowerforyou

(ill send your money to you right away, good job, sounded totally natural and unrehearsed}.

that is an excellent start. setting roberta as your benchmark is going to leave a lot of women out of your dating pool, but the few that will find their way there will be awesome. you go boy

NO doubt having somebody 'like' Roberta (as if there's a comparisonflowerforyou ) as a benchmark is leaving a LOT of women out of the pool. Why do you think I remain patient while she's STILL on the other side of the country?
Because I got your car keys!laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

let's just say you are looking for art supplies. you go in to the store and you may ask the clerk for a particular brand of paint. the clerk might say we are out of stock on that brand, but we another brand in various colors. if you know about paints (i don't) you immediately know if the other brand is as good or better than the brand you requested. the brand you request is your benchmark. you judge other brands by the brand you know and trust
