IM sure each state has differences, but here, its not the cashiers task to 'check' anything its programmed into the card what can be purchased and what cannot and whatever cannot be purchased will show as a remaining balance once the card is scanned.. it just wont accept the card for items that arent 'approved' as food all the card sees is the amount. It doesn't have a system to say what product is what to reject it. then there is also cash on it...ya can't buy anything but food on a food card, in all states. I have to disagree. I've seen it myself. My brother in law has the Lone Star card and has bought soap, shampoo, cat food, etc all on the same thing and just swipes the card for the total amount I actually didn't know (until I just looked it up) that you aren't supposed to buy those things either. My guess is they don't have the resources to monitor everything bought. It scans just like a debit card and the card only sees the total. |

The Lone Star Card is Texas' version of the food stamp/TANF card. I was on WIC back before the debit cards.

It could have nothing to do with whether he is supposed to buy it. The Card the state issues can have FOOD benefits or CASH benefits or both. The register rings up the bill and beside the items it will say whether the item is a taxable food item, once the customer CHOOSES their method of payment(if its going to be the card FOOD benefit or the card CASH benefit) the register will make the necessary adjustments. IF the customer is using their CASH benefit , the register will just ring up the total but if the customer is using thier FOOD benefit the register will subtotal based upon what was food and what wasnt. |

Cuz' yr rich you can do whatever you want, right? But....if yr poor.....you have to be a saint? Live under a microscope? Get real people........ You're missing the point there. It's not about that the rich can do what they want. That's a WHOLE different issue. The 'rich' are supporting themselves and being productive parts of society. The idea is that taxpayers are effectively supporting drug users who should/could be working and by NOT drug testing, encouraging them to continue their habits. That's absolutely true, but has nothing to do with the idea of drug testing for welfare. The point is about having taxpayers supporting habits. if and when the addicts die..the kids becoming wards of the state is funded by taxpayer money if and when the addict ends up in jail, is also supported by taxpayer money why not put the money to better use and actually um, help?!?! they have to want the help first... you can't force someone to quit drugs if they have no urge to... That's true. And if they sit on their butt all day and get high while the taxpayers pay their way, why would they have the urge to quit? |

With his card it's only a food card. I can only assume there is a glitch somewhere....whether it's a glitch with the store or the card...I don't know. But I know it has happened. |

then i don't know how he's doing it.... bet ya a dollar he gets cash assistance also ![]() like I said...I think there is a glitch somewhere in the computer system. I would assume the bar codes are coded to what the item is. Maybe the codes are registering wrong or the card isn't picking up on it. The card is only for food ($70 a month). My sister gets disability that is completely separate and for a time he was getting unemployment...all separate. So your guess is as good as mine. Maybe I need to contact them and straighten them out....I'll get right on it ![]() Because we know how well people listen to me ![]() |

Florida Gov. Rick Scott signs law requiring welfare recipients to take drug test, ACLU objects BY ALIYAH SHAHID DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Wednesday, June 01, 2011 If Floridians want welfare, they better make sure they are drug-free. Republican Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill on Tuesday that requires benefit recipients to undergo drug testing. Applicants for the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program who test positive for illicit substances won't be eligible for the funds for a year, or until they undergo treatment. Those who fail a second time would be banned from receiving the funds for three years. http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-06-01/news/29627456_1_aclu-objects-welfare-recipients-rick-scott Your take? ![]() |

I honestly don't see why people see the need to further humiliate the poor. So....rich people don't do drugs? C'mon', man. It's just another form of humiliation........ The rich don't claim welfare and use their food money for drugs. |

I never claimed everyone on it was corrupt or wasn't. There are good people that need the assistance and there are corrupt people that take advantage of it. I don't assume someone is corrupt just because they are on assistance and I don't think I gave that impress here. There is good and bad whether it's race, religion, gender, politics, regional area, income, etc. |

It is more common then people on here realize. We used to investigate this instances at my old job and get authorities involved. We would have atleast 20-30 instances during an 8 hour shift at ONE store. |

I feel confident enough to say that I will bet that everyone here has needed some help at one time or another...although most will not admit it here. Makes it easier to condemn others that way...lump them all together and label them. Easier to hate that way
Lpdon, i can see you REALLY loving that job ![]() ![]() |
