I've been trying to trap an armadillo and haven't had much success (I have trapped several in the past). Possums are easier since they will eat anything. I don't have a bag of earthworms for bait! 
dig up your neighbors garden and get some grub worms....they like them. Blame it on the armadillos. There are probably half a dozen places within five miles of here that sell worms. I am much too lazy for that. Apples and peanut butter are the current lures! How does the armadillo climb the tree to pick an apple? He sends a possum up there for it 
Armadillos are not much on brains. Looks like they are smarter than possums though.
