Topic: I think I misunderstood the phrase "hope and change" | |
---|---|
I think what Obama meant when he promised "hope and change" is that HE HOPED he would win the election, and planned on putting 'change' in his own pocket.
|
|
|
|
I agree with that. He has done nothing but divide the country!
|
|
|
|
If you actually listened to ANY of his campaign speeches most of the things he promised would take effect in '10 years' how convenient for him right? if he serves 2 terms...that means he is not required to show ANY progress while he is in office!.

Actually, YOU understood it correctly ... it's the little suckups and psychophants who BELIEVED what a snake-oil salesman was pitchin' 'em from the back of his roll-up caravan who screwed the pooch on the '08 election ... WORDS. MEAN. THINGS. Too bad for those of us who saw thru the BS that the suckups never insisted on an explanation of 'Hope' 'n 'Change' ... now we're all screwed 'cuz of their intellectual laziness ... and 'GIMME!' mentality ...

OBAMA: Well, there are a range of things that are probably going to have to be delayed. We don't yet know what our tax revenues are going to be. The economy is slowing down, so it's hard to anticipate right now what the budget is going to look like next year.
But there's no doubt that we're not going to be able to do everything that I think needs to be done. There are some things that I think have to be done. We have to have energy independence, so I've put forward a plan to make sure that, in 10 years' time, we have freed ourselves from dependence on Middle Eastern oil by increasing production at home, but most importantly by starting to invest in alternative energy (OOTC:AEGC) , solar, wind, biodiesel, making sure that we're developing the fuel-efficient cars of the future right here in the United States, in Ohio and Michigan, instead of Japan and South Korea. We have to fix our health care system, which is putting an enormous burden on families. Just -- a report just came out that the average deductible went up 30 percent on American families. They are getting crushed, and many of them are going bankrupt as a consequence of health care. I'm meeting folks all over the country. We have to do that now, because it will actually make our businesses and our families better off. The third thing we have to do is we've got to make sure that we're competing in education. We've got to invest in science and technology. China had a space launch and a space walk. We've got to make sure that our children are keeping pace in math and in science. And one of the things I think we have to do is make sure that college is affordable for every young person in America. And I also think that we're going to have to rebuild our infrastructure, which is falling behind, our roads, our bridges, but also broadband lines that reach into rural communities. Also, making sure that we have a new electricity grid to get the alternative energy to population centers that are using them. So there are some -- some things that we've got to do structurally to make sure that we can compete in this global economy. We can't shortchange those things. We've got to eliminate programs that don't work, and we've got to make sure that the programs that we do have are more efficient and cost less. ...I believed him AND he delivered,,, |

I learn more toward a socialist philosophy, so I'm not entirely in love with what Obama has accomplished this far. I'm certain that comprehensive medical and dental care should be provided to ALL Amercans within the US, and that's not likely to happen within my lifetime.

It is going to take a bit more than 2 years to fix the messes left behind by the last four administrations.
Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Cheney left behind some bad legacies. Obama is in a near impossible situation and if anything, needs to be a bit more forceful in his economic plan but the initiative of loan guarantees for small business is great, to name just one. Clean energy Tech should be lead by the US but China and Europe are leading instead. Fixing up the railroad infrastructure would create more jobs than all of the automotive jobs combined. msharmony made some great points above. One big issue is still that the US primary and secondary education system is dead last amongst industrialized nations and although the post-secondary is second to none, it is too expensive for many to be able to enjoy the benefits. |

Not just what the media is saying it effected, I'm actually intrested in what people think he has accomplished, and what their proof is of that accomplishment. |

from first presidential debate
OBAMA: So I would send two to three additional brigades to Afghanistan. Now, keep in mind that we have four times the number of troops in Iraq, where nobody had anything to do with 9/11 before we went in, where, in fact, there was no Al Qaida before we went in, but we have four times more troops there than we do in Afghanistan. I believed him and he delivered,,,, from second debate OBAMA: And that's why, for example, on tax policy, what I want to do is provide a middle class tax cut to 95 percent of working Americans, those who are working two jobs, people who are not spending enough time with their kids, because they are struggling to make ends meet OBAMA: We are going to have to deal with energy because we can't keep on borrowing from the Chinese and sending money to Saudi Arabia. We are mortgaging our children's future. We've got to have a different energy plan. We've got to invest in college affordability. So we're going to have to make some investments, but we've also got to make spending cuts OBAMA: We're going to have to prioritize, just like a family has to prioritize. Now, I've listed the things that I think have to be at the top of the list. Energy we have to deal with today, because you're paying $3.80 here in Nashville for gasoline, and it could go up. And it's a strain on your family budget, but it's also bad for our national security, because countries like Russia and Venezuela and, you know, in some cases, countries like Iran, are benefiting from higher oil prices. So we've got to deal with that right away. That's why I've called for an investment of $15 billion a year over 10 years. Our goal should be, in 10 year's time, we are free of dependence on Middle Eastern oil. And we can do it. Now, when JFK said we're going to the Moon in 10 years, nobody was sure how to do it, but we understood that, if the American people make a decision to do something, it gets done. So that would be priority number one. Health care is priority number two, because that broken health care system is bad not only for families, but it's making our businesses less competitive. And, number three, we've got to deal with education so that our young people are competitive in a global economy. i believed him and he delivered,,,, |

Is your neighbor back to work because of a bill Obama passed? Has the housing market gone up in your neighborhood? Has the crime rate gone done because of a measure? No, No, and No! Nothing that he has done has proven effective. His stimulis bill went to pay off giant corporate bonuse's it did NOTHING but triple our debt. so now again, not whad did Obama tell you, what has he done that has been effective? Unemployment dropped? nope Economy better? nope Education better? nope Immigration reform?nope so what has he done? |

Isaac_dede, I think you are clearly missing the point. It takes a lot more than two years for initiatives to be felt by the population. What part of this can't you grasp? The legacy left by the last four administrations are not going to be fixed overnight.
High school economics will teach you at least that much. |

Isn't it funny how the anti Obamites claim that the pro Obamites think of him as a messiah capable of miracles and in reality they are.

I agree with that. He has done nothing but divide the country! Maybe if some of the right wingers would quit bellyaching about losing the election and try to work out some compromise, this country would get moving on the things that need to be done. |
