well u men give him the abs advice, and i will concentrate on the drinking...whether it is beer or hard liquor, i think that it turns to fat....and settles where it can...

the caloric content of various hard liquors is different so whatever your preference, do a google to find out how much a shot is worth in calories. beer is beer, and it is basically hops and other starches put in it, to make it have that rich down the hatch taste we all love. caloric intake? well obviously more in the can than a shot, about 3x i would say.

i think beer settles in the stomach no matter be it man or woman. i could be wrong here.

you can tone the muscles anywhere...but he is asking about losing weight in a particular spot. That is medically impossible.

no it isn't...working out and using weights for a particular area will change that area. Along with proper diet... I have and do, do it.

You can only add muscle to a spot, cannot spot reduce!!! Unless you lipo. You have to lose fat all over to lose fat in one area. Spot reducing is like asking to empty out the deep end part of a swimming pool and leave the water in the shallow area.

Dude, but it's weird. I've been doing cardio and I acknowledge it reduces all over but I am just bothered by my belly still stuffed. So, if I continue doing cardio it feels like when I do it my muscles built fade away with it as well.

If your belly fat isn't going down all the cardio in the world won't help. Then it has to be your diet. If you can't keep muscle on while cutting either you don't have the genetics for it, or you are not taking in enough protein. Simple as that!

Cardio with high endurance short intervals works best for overall loss.

Low endurance and long distance does not really help for loss of fat but its where you start

Combine with strength training and you have a good routine.

I read through everything and this is the best advice. HIITs or high intensity interval training will burn more fat and less muscle than steady state cardio. (you start to burn muscle while doing steady state because it is more effcient energy source.) It also will increase your metabolism for about 24 hours. Add in the strength training to build more muscle and burn more fat.

Another person mentioned to make sure you eat enough protien. That is also true.

I wrote a lot more in the losing weight thread at the end of page two if you want to look at that.

There is a set of exercises out there that are geared towards just the different abs groups. However, the only place that I've seen them is in a video that I don't own or currently have in my possession that is rather expensive. This video is designed fo rpeople who have lost weight and shaped up but who can't get rid of the excessive abdominal fat that clings to the sides and front while you are losing weight and gaining muscle everywhere else. I think that there are several different styles of crunches involved, as well as some stretches and other exercises, all of which are aimed SPECIFICALLY at the 3(?) different seperate groups of abs muscles. Just plain sit-ups only exercise one group within the abs catagory. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where to find that video anymore. You may go into a search engine and look it up. Meanwhile, you should probably coontinue with the exercises that have worked on the rest of your body thus far. GOOD LUCK.

Sugar is Satan... that includes beer, breads, any processed grains because they contribute to belly fat.

I find omega 3 Flax oil helps keep it low(pinch an inch).

I used to be a slave to sit ups but found out they only made me bigger in the middle.. building muscle, not really getting rid of fat. My experience has been adding healthy fat is important when it comes to getting rid of belly fat.

Other than lipo..I can't go there.biggrin

Good luck

I guess it's really the diet. It's just hard where I am right now. Meal providers here in Manila doesn't necessarily concern themselves with Health in general. All that matters here is something to eat at a low price.

Biggest issue is the office where I can't follow the have 5 small healthy meals instead of 3 big meals a day.

Btw, thanks for the sugar thing. I'll take note of that from now on.

^^ words of wisdom...

it's what you eat, and how much you exercise...

you ideal body weight is about 106 lbs + 6 lbs for every inch over 5' tall (medical standard). So for a 5'9" man you should weigh about 168lbs... it's about what you eat that gains you the weight, its about how you exercise that gives you tone...

give up sugar, alcohol and all that fat. eat high fiber, high protien diet with "real foods"... don't cut out all fat, some fat is good for ya!!...

Have fun at the gym!! LOL!!

I hate dogma ideas put out by some doctors. The last time I was under 170lbs is when i was 16 years old.

Everybody has a different bone structure and weight as well and everybody has an ideal weight, their "body" is comfortable. You either starve yourself to keep an un-ideal weight limit, or eat yourself silly and achieve an overweight problem.

I'm 210lbs. and I can jump like a tiger and many days I feel like I have unlimited energy.

I've been a fitness trainer for 21 years.

Clients come to me asking why they have problem areas when they work out all the time (and most properly), the first question I ask is "What is your diet like?"

Most people who have good muscle tone find it’s hiding under a layer of fat. A washboard torso cannot be if there is belly fat.

Dieting is hard, and therefore should be a lifestyle change rather than a temporary fix.

Check you BMI and research calculations for the amount of calories, carbs, protein, sugars, and fat you should be consuming per day. Carbs and sugars are usually what sabotages most people.

If you are predisposed to excess fat, you may have a battle your whole life.

Good luck but do it right!

What's your advice and being able to get rid of those flabbing love handles quick? I'm getting muscular alright but my tummy is getting bigger and my love handles as well. Been a problem since I was younger. Fat only goes to the waist but never on the legs, arms or face. It's beginning to annoy me so any formula that worked for you, post it here!
I recommend muay thai kickboxing, ive been doing it for about 3 years. Thai boxers are known for their cut waist. Go on youtube and check out some muay thai training workouts.

Hmm I believe crunching would only make it bigger due to the muscles being developed.

I googled that device yours, I laughed at the video where you lean forward and widen your legs apart and back. Lol. (I definitely deserve to be in Santa's naughtly list)

Don't fall for the gimmicks. I spend more time undoing infomercial with my clients than actual training sometimes. Gawd, when will that stuff go away? grumble

You are misinformed about your statement, "crunching will make the muscle bigger" by a point or two.

First, if you have fat on muscle, yes, you will get thicker but it's not the muscle's fault. Get rid of the fat.

If you train muscles correctly -- for your goal -- the muscle will be long rather than short which will lengthen your torso.

Bottom line is diet and make sure you know HOW to work out to showcase the muscle no longer hidden by fat. Don’t forget: muscle burns fat.

You guys are making this WAY harder than it has to be....

need to get in shape fast? Use the warp filter on any photo program.

in less than two minutes I got a great body with zero effort.

Work smarter.........not harder.

my $0.02: rib rippers.

you lay on your side (left, then right) and bend your legs in slightly and try to straighten your back. now while laying on your side, turn your body so your face is pointing at the ceiling and your shoulder blades are flat on the ground. get a good-sized weight (10lbs?) and grasp it lengthwise, holding it above your chest (don't let it rest). now crunch. you want your shoulder blades off the ground and keep your core tight. do this in sets of 20 or 30.

if you're doing it right, it should feel like someone's sticking a knife in your ribs . but do it at least four times a week, 2 reps of 30, combined with regular cardio and you'll see those handles shrink away.

as far as cardio not being fun, i found doing it in a group/class setting was much more enjoyable. check out local gyms near you and see if they have a small cardio kickboxing/conditioning class. good luck!

twisties, start with one song, work up to four songs, and do your cardio after, get a juicer and read juicing books for recipes. my eyesight went from 20/40 to 20/10, and overall strength increased 25%. i lost 50 lbs that i had from an injury(dislocated hip) and got a sixpack abs.

if you can get a roman chair, that helps to as well. eat as many vegetables and fruits as you can.....for the rest of your life. i guarranty results.

Lay on your back like you're going to do crunches. Knees bent, but laid over to one side. That puts a twist in your waist. Now do the crunches. It works the side and those lovely love handles.

So I have been told to cut out the sugar and eat good carbs, and I hear it's 80% nutrition and 20% exercise...I struggle with it every single day myself. So if you find a quick fix, let me know!

I reduced the carbs and sugar and upped the protein in smoothies.

My body is very sensitive to carbs and sugar, as well as gluten
