This country has gone to hell in a matter of decades. It's not turning out how it was suppose to turn out. Greed and money dictates how this country is. The fed needs to be stopped and big government needs to take a step back. The way things are leading with the two major parties, I only see it getting worse.

Something needs to give, people need to stop all the hate and stop fighting against each other and start fighting against big government. Things could be good if the hate went away.

flowerforyou Yes, unregulated and uncontrolled capitalism has that effectflowerforyou

you must live on the other side of the looking glass.. because none of what you think or write on these boards has any basis in reality.

either that or you just enjoy playing a buffoon.

you live in a fanstasy land if you think a) that capitalism is unregulated or b) that pure capitalism is what crashed the market..

GO and LOOK at what happened to the trends in housing prices after the Clinton signed into law his Affirmative Action Affordable Housing program..

let's see if this works...

if not then look here
http://images.creditwritedowns.com/blogger/SGFtO3LxcoI/AAAAAAAAA8c/CXZuQg2y7t8/s1600/Case%20Shiller%20inflation.png
smile2 People in the loan industry profited from those practicessmile2

smile2 The heedless drive for profits caused the crash.smile2

smile2 This was encouraged and it caused the crashsmile2

 The poor have always been an easy scapegoat:smile:But they arn't the ones with the money:smile:

http://www.creditwritedowns.com/2008/05/chart-of-day-home-prices-versus.html

second graph...

lookit.. housing prices follow inflation.. nice little trend.. then The Clinton signs the Affordable Housing Bill in 1996 and boom... housing prices jump and outpace inflation like a boss.. untill when??

until all those subprime mortgages began to default.. too many sellers, not enough buyers..

anyone? anyone know what happens when supply far exceeds demand?

anyone?

that's right.. prices fall.. it becomes a buyers market.. prices keep falling and suddenly buyer stop buying because they;re afriad of losing out on the deal..

get it straight man..

you're on the wrong side of the arguement..

 Yes,the overwhelming greed of the capitalist system causes these problems:smile: It is easy to blame the poor, but its strange how they arn't the ones with control of the money:smile:

It was Fannie and Freddie, Government Sponsored Enterprises, that drove the subprime mortgage writing.. not regular banks..

Mirror, I seriously hope you're f'ing with me because there's no doubt in any economists' minds, who aren't currently on the payroll of the Obama Administration or the DNC, where and how the bubble started..

It started in the late 90's when banks were forced by Clinton to shovel borrowers into the housing market who could barely afford to keep current on their rent...

why do you refuse to think the logic through?

I'm not blaming the poor..

if anything, they're as much the victims in the affordable housing scam as the rest of us are..

they're the one's being booted out of their homes.. along with a great many other people..

you don't gain anything or increase your resources by borrowing that which you can't pay back.. everyone loses.. and that's what happened..

I'll grant that there was a fierce amount of greed involved in the issue but if that's all it was, why did it not happen sooner?

why the timing of the inflation of the market bubble that I show you here?

http://www.creditwritedowns.com/2008/05/chart-of-day-home-prices-versus.html

I'll tell you why.. It was market-rigging on the part of the Clinton.. it's just too bad no one stopped it then.. but no one in congress wanted to have to fend off the allegations of racism that would have come along with opposition to that legislation..

The push to put people in houses they could afford by literally giving them loans they couldn't repay was the impetous..

I don't blame the poor, per se.. Hell I almost took one of those loans.. but I didn't because I wanted to protect my credit.. I knew I couldnt keep up with a mortgage at the time..

but people gotta remember what their granny told them growing up..
"If it's too good to be true, it probably is."
Zero down, zero interest loans are just plain too good to be true and they didn't exist prior to 1996/97..

the linkage is there.. whether you acknowledge it or not is purely a function of your intellectual honesty..

mmm,,Can we actually READ or HEAR in the bill where it calls for raising taxes before we get heated about what we think 'our' money is going to? My mom worked in government,, there is excellent healthcare for those workers because of the sheer number who are members in the healthplan (thereby getting a reduced rate). The understanding I have is that this option will work the same way,,not from tax money. But as I said, Id love to see for myself the actual plan and not all the critics opinions about what it means...

maybe it's cuz Princess Nanci won't let it out until it's voted on..)

and in a year from now when you're done with reading it, come back and tell us what you think.

Wow I have read all the posts and raiderfan, you held your own and wow, great job. Sadly, the gimme gimme people won't see it our way. If this passes, all I can say people is bend over and get ready.slaphead

This entitlement society will be the death of America. Not everyone is ENTITLED to everything. If we all realized that, then things would be a heck of a lot better.

I think you are missing my point. IF we havent seen what the bill entails than how can we have so many steadfast opinions about where it will lead?

I am giving it time. I think AMerica has seen better days and it will again..life runs in cycles. America was never this healthy united place people want to believe it was. Every generation has faced real issues and had real complaints about government. I dont think this admin is any worse than the ones past.. I just happen to think our President is in touch with the average american a bit more than some have been in recent years, but that is my opinion.

The cost of affordable healthcare IS the national Katrina. The democrats are trying to build a dike that costs 900 billion dollars to keep us from drowning in personal debt. The righties see the disaster differently and think we just need floaties. It really is sad to see who is owned by big insurance and lobbyists. Both parties have agendas that will hurt someone.

the "open seas of capitalism" aren't all that open.. Federal restriction prevent yo from carrying your coverage from one state to another.

they also prevent full blown competition from taking place by allowing companies from selling in all 50 states..

Did you know that besides Baseball (MLB) the insurance industry is maybe on of the only other one that enjoys an anti-trust exemption?

Yep.. and that's by virtue of federal law..

from wiki
In short, while not changing the opinion of prevailing law, the Court stated that the conclusion that insurance was not commerce under the law rested with Congress, and that the Court would follow the lead of Congress.

As a result, on March 9, 1945, the McCarran–Ferguson Act was passed by Congress. Among other things, it allows for:

-exempts health insurance companies from the federal anti-trust legislation that applies to most businesses[1]
-the state regulation of insurance
-allows states to establish mandatory licensing requirements
-preserves certain state laws of insurance.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCarran%E2%80%93Ferguson_Act

i don't know why that link isn't working but the act is called the "McCarran-Ferguson Act" check into it..

So don't listen to the fearmongers and populists that attempt to rally us, the nonpriviledged, against the forces of the free market.. it's all a scam.. they don't care about covering you and you kiddos against healthrisks.. they just care about controling your access to it, so that when election time comes, they can say "if you vote for the other guys, they'll take your healthcare away"

Don't fall for it..

If choice and competition was all they were interesting on promoting, they would strip the healthcare insurance industry of it's anti-trust exemption and set reasonable minimum standards that allowed for people with pre-existing conditions to buy into high-risk pools the way that 16 year old boys are allowed to buy car insurance.

But "Choice and Competition" is just a nice sounding phrase that gets people to think that they have benevolent motives.. But the FedGov's Public Option is the only option that will be available in all 50 states..

is that "Choice and Competition"? or is it a Federal Monopoly?

Pelosi's plan will force you to pay $1250/month for a family of 4 and you get to go to the DMV/DPS to get seen by a doctor..

you have to carry medical insurance that they have the priviledge either to approve or disapprove..

in effect, you get another mommy.. is that how you see the role of the Federal Government? a surrogate, substitute mommy?
