Hello everyone! I have been trying vegan diet for over a year now and
people constantly accuse me of being unhealthy. I try to supplement
different foods so I get all required nutrients. What do you guys think?
What are the pros and cons of veganism?

You have to get your B12 vitamins, and the only natural source that is
absorbed in the body, is through meat. So being a vegan, you will have
to get some vitamins. I was a vegan for 2 years, always had my B
vitamins around. Sea veggies do have some B12, but not enough for our
bodies. You will do fine on that diet, just get those B's.

barlow i dont eat meat and i have not done so since the age of 14 i
have never taken supplements and there is no need for suplements.meat is
toxic to the human body it takes 50 times more energy to produce a meat
based diet.it is hard to digest and putrifies in the the gut of humans
and there are heaps of illness atributable to the consumption of
flesh.hemp seed has all the amino acids and is a perfect source of
proteinbigsmile

Im a vegetarian also...but not a vegan.
I do consume milk and cheese but no meat at all.
It works well with me.

As for being unhealthy...lets see...
I can run 5miles in 40mins and bench press 305lbs.
I think that places me out of the unhealthy category.

No supplements required.

What is a Vegan?

Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or poultry. Vegans, in addition to
being vegetarian, do not use other animal products and by-products such
as eggs, dairy products, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and
soaps derived from animal products.

Calder, I ate 100% vegan for a solid year, more as an experiment than
for 'animal rights' reasons. I was also eating a -lot- of healthy food
and doing good bit of exercise. I felt better and had more energy
during that time than any other time point in the last 10 years.

I did not take any B12 supplements, as a healthy person has several
years worth of B12 stored in their liver. I would, however, recommend
taking the supplements; just don't freak if you miss a day...or a year.

On the other hand, I have known quite a few vegans who don't care for
their health, and who don't even eat much green veggies. They don't
look nor act healthy, IMO.

Suplements are a waste of money, if you are a vegetarian.

my children and i are complete vegetarians, bordering on vegans...we eat
a bit of milk and cheese, but the cheese has to be vegetarian, as well.
i actually prefer soy milk, tastes like a treat.

my 11-year-old has never been sick, other than two stomach viruses, in
her entire life. their pediatricians are in complete agreement and have
always worked with me...

one can be a vegetarian and be healthy, or not be. one can be an
omnivore and be healthy, or not be.

just do your research. being vegan or vegetarian is a lot easier than
most non-vegetarians think it is. as they do with protein, most
westerners consume a great deal more B12 than is actually necessary in
your daily diet. we (i'm vegetarian, but i like cheese too much to be
vegan) are much more aware of what we put in our bodies.
