Topic: Where were you on September 11 2001 | |
---|---|
I'd just gotten up and turned on the TV. Peter Jennings was on, which he never was that early in the day. The first plane had hit. When second one hit, of course we all knew it was no accident. I watched TV like most of us the next few days. I didn't get scared until they hit the Pentagon. That was when I thought that they could be Anywhere. I watched the Towers fall and didn't cry a tear. It was about a week and a half later that it finally hit me.
How did you all hear? Were any of you flying at the time? |

Out at sea...and it was the 12th of September here...
we got home from a huge day out on the reef... full boat of tourists...came home....kids running around....beers in hand...littlest one put the telly on....and we were trying to figure out why a movie of a plane crash was playing at 6 o'clock at night... my blood ran cold, as we realised that this was happening, and was an act of hate.... my word's? "Oh f* c k, here comes World War 3." We were literally sh*tting our pants here for months...and months and months, and years and years and years.... |

... It was so painfully devastating to watch...
I was packing my moving van for Boulder and caring for my then 3 year old! I knew all bets were off, that the whole economy was about to change and all my research of "entrepreneurially successful" Boulder, Co was all for naught! Bless those tortured and lost souls, the injured and their families ... my heart breaks for them ... |

i was sleeping in cause i didnt have classes that day. my mom woke me up and told me to turn on the news. i watched katie couric in disbelief as she talked bout a plane hitting the first tower. what idiot hits a building was my first thought. then i watched the plane hit the other tower....i remember tears streaming down my face, sitting there, feeling numb.

Was starting my senior year in high school. Some of my teachers allowed the class to watch the news. Some students I passed by were crying. I didn't know exactly how serious it was until I got home. My family just watched the news for the rest of the evening. Weird thing...I had a dream about it happening before it happened!
My uncle was part of the NYPD team to help clean up the disaster. |

I was hanging sheet rock in a newly constructed home with no electric, in a once thriving community. Didn't hear about it till the drive home. Now the company I was working for is gone and the homes are all forclosed.

I was a police officer working the night shift. Stopped in at Momma Ruth's Cafe in Providence, KY to grab a drink, then hit the streets and everyone was standing up, watching the television, crying. I spilled my drink all over the counter as she handed it to me and I stood there, watching the twin towers burning. The streets were quiet for the first time ever that night. The next day, I donated blood. It was not long after wards that we started working "Anthrax" scares every time someone opened an envelope not knowing who it was from. I also prayed harder than I had ever prayed in my whole entire life.

I was checking email and in a chat room. A girl came into the room and said "Y'all need to check the t.v."
I turned on CNN just in time to watch the second plane hit. My first thought was Oh my Gods. My second one was, please let those towers be empty. My third was that my fiancee at the time was going to have to leave. (He had JUST gotten out of the Coast Guard) I have never felt so violated, so overwhelmed in my life. The silence that followed the attack was profound. I lived about 20 min from an international airport, planes going overhead has become background noise. I didn't realize how used to them I'd become until they weren't there anymore. |

I was working in an auto body shop full time, taking a break from college, because I needed money. So, in the morning when it happened, I was right next to the radio listening to the whole thing happening, first I thought it was a freak accident when the first plane hit, then when the second got hit, i told my friend there, that this is no accident and USA is under attack.
Next day, I had my BDUs out of the bag, and I was expecting to be called in to the NG for emergency. |

I had come home from Tennessee about a year prior and I was still in the process of getting myself back on my feet.
My mom woke me up that morning with the words " I think you need to get up and see this. " |

i had a friend that lived in nyc. i called him to check that he was ok. he didnt believe when i told him what happened. he said that the cable had gone out and that he was bout to call his service. i remembered that he had said that he could see the towers from his roof. it was his favorite view. i told him to go the roof and look. he broke down. i had never heard him cry before. he kept saying that it isnt right over and over. he told me had to help then hung up.
