Topic: people lying about their looks | |

Ah ffs, it's just a picture. We are all making this really WAY too difficult. Pictures from 15 years ago should be a little obvious to most. Throw up a bunch of recent ones, including full body shots and call it a day. Don't mean to be grumpy, but I'm so over this whole picture thing. It's just one in a huge list of things so many people have to checkmark before they actually will have a conversation. If you met someone in person, in real life, do you not think they might tell some little white lies to make themselves appear more attractive to you as well? Pretty much everyone tries to downplay their bad habits or their idiosyncrasies. I don't think the majority of people do it to be evil or dishonest. It's just regular folks trying to make themselves look good in order to get a date. If they look better than their pictures.....good for them! I just wanted someone else to say it |

pictures are just a moment of time frozen and captured on film (digital now). There is more to any person than that one moment.

If people are really that worried about what someone looks like when they meet, perhaps they can use a webcam? |

Its way way more acceptable for someone to 'lie' about themselves if they are downgrading, rather than upgrading.
Right now, i cant quite think why. It just is. If i was a millionaire, and i said i was just financially comfortable, that isnt necessarily a lie. If i was poor and said i was a millionaire, then thats a dirty great big black lie. As long as the person in the pics is that person, i dont see how it matters that they are better in real life. Pictures only show so much anyway, sometimes a person is attractive by the way that they smile, say, but the pics might not show that. Its more honest to put up pictures of you not looking your best, than to use pictures that do. Someone might dress up nicely, but, when you see them when they wake up in the morning, they might look a lot different. |

I went out with a guy who looked hot as hell in his pic. Turned out he had airbrushed the hell out of it. Over dinner he told me a woman had actually left him stranded in a restaurant because he looked nothing like his pics. Would I have gone out with him if I had known what he really looked like? Probably not. But I still think it's stupid to lie, people have eyes, they will find out. but my question was the reverse. suppose his picture was unflattering, or suppose he had taken the picture months ago and in the interim worked his *** off in a gym... would the "lying" bother you then? when people first saw my pics, at that time, they were pics of me 40 lbs heavier, built, but heavier.... five months ago. now i've had recent ones taken, a week or two ago, and i guess most have noticed the change, by the reactions and e-mails i've been getting. it's a pleasant uplifting surprize, i must say, but it's just my shell, although it does reflect the person inside, and that i do care about what happens to myself, and that i want full utilization of my fascilities, and the strength to be the best i can be.... |
