While I agree, it is wrong on all counts - don't think they are flaunting their power, more like grasping for power.

I tell my child that my dad whipped me with a yard stick...She said he would never do that because thats abuse...It was not abuse but a lesson sorry to say I had to learn more than once...There is a line not to cross but of course some people take it to a bad extreeme, but I deserved each of those wacks!!!!

how do people make sure their kids are protected. I know they can't be watched 24/7. But I do think more parents should be involved and know where the kids are and maybe talk to them more about it.

Mirror...the thing is...this is nothing new. I think we are MORE aware of it because it's "news worthy" where at one time people didn't dare speak of it. Kind of like the old I Love Lucy shows where they slept in separate beds because it wasn't "proper" for TV, even if they are married and normal in real life. But look at how it is today.

Tell you why not castration.

Read a case, guy convicted of rape, talked judge into castrating him.
A few yrs later, he raped again.
Had started having medical problems, caused by the castration.
State had to start paying for him to take hormones.
Hormones made it so he could rape again.
AND HE DID.

ANY TYPE OF ABUSE IS WRONG...Sometimes I see parents mentally abusing their kids and it all has the same out come for the kids...A BAD ONE

I think sexual crimes should be prosecuted to the extreme

Being older, I know of cases; back in the 50's.
Rapeists just disappeared or had accidents, if they made it to prison, they didn't last long. Now there are to many sentenced for sex crimes in jail & they protect eachother.

NEED to BRING back the old ways.

you are right...but the media and the people didn't talk about "those things" (rape, molestation, etc)

as far as castration...you are correct. rape is a power thing and control and sex is the weapon (or that member is). without that tool...they will just use something else to do the job.

maybe if we do get tougher on those that have been convicted (and I mean by solid fool-proof evidence) that maybe it MIGHT make them think twice. then again...they might just find new ways to be sneaky about it or to cast doubt.

my grandma was 13 when she married my grandfather and he was 32 and she was his 3rd wife. they were married for 45yrs before he died.. i have heard stories that he was mean to her, but then i heard other storie so not sure which one is true

THAT is true and still true in some cultures. THAT part I'm not REALLY questioning (even though I don't get it) I'm talking more about forcing others. as far as today goes...that is why there are laws to protect kids (which I'm happy for)

even if a child wants to marry an adult...yadda yadda yadda...they can wait until they are 18. too many kids rush through their childhood then look back later and regret it.
