Topic: English anyone? | |
---|---|
English is my primary language but I also speak Irish (Gaelic) and French. MahanMahan, apology duly accepted! Don't you be sad now!! Sorry I did not respond promptly enough, but I completely forgot this little "tussle" had even happened (until now, obviously!)! You make logical points and moreover you are forgiven, thank you so mucheeet! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...! YEEET! *Little poos on cement* Let's keep this on topic, too, please. More language-talk, less...whatever! Please?! Spanish, as I said, has always intrigued me, but I've sort of lost any progress with learning it, sadly! I will always love English, though, and will likely continue studying its many idiosyncrasies all my life! ![]() |

singmesweet,
What is the official language of the United States then, if not English? And if you say Portuguese, then you are a communist and you should be exiled to Brazil... immediately and at once! LOL |

Z, Isn't English the official language of the Ubnited States of America? Sure, we have a pretty huge and growing Spanish-speaking population, but the majority speaks English. In fact, English is so ubiquitous that many countries are promoting it, such as China and Germany, off the top of my head. Soon, it shall be a WORLD WIDE LANGUAGE: GLOBAL SPEAK! PWAHAHAHAHAH! PWAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA! AHA! AHA! Yeah. Edit: Okay, according to Wikipedia, the U.S. has no "official" language, but most Americans consider English their "native" language. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_the_United_States |
|
|
|
One of the few states to have passed an "official language" law was California back in the late-eighties (Prop. 187), which was effectively protested against by all the latino ethnocentric groups (MALDEF, MECHa, La Raza, et al) soon afterward.

Look guys...this thing just keeps looping back to a fight with no real purpose....
(Elvira?...is that you???) (that is an ex of mine who loved verbal fighting ..) Does punctuation matter more than common courtesy? If it does...continue to speak to everyone like they are stupid. Not sure how that is supposed to help. Does common courtesy matter more than puntuation? my vote: yes |

Z,
You may find comfort in knowing that English is not the only language basterdized in the U.S. According to a friend of mine who moved here with his family from Spain a while back, the Spanish spoken by Mexicans is a disgrace to the language. He calls it a basterdized Spanglish and it vaguely resembles the language spoken in Spain. And we all know what the British think about the English spoken here in the colonies... So, we're a bunch of bastards, English OR Spanish speakin'... |

So, we're a bunch of bastards, English OR Spanish speakin'... Americans do have a tendency to make things seem more "tawdry" (like food and music, for instance, as well). Then again, we are a "melting pot" of a society, as they say, so that in itself makes our country distinct. We may not have a strong (linguistic) heritage, as the Spanish and English do, but, in a way, that openness brings character. No sé. It's all pretty relative. |
