Topic: Looking out your window.. | |
---|---|
Something that has been bothering me, is this topic is Current News and
Events..."What's going on in the WORLD..." to me, that means outside one's window. Is it possible to perhaps look outside our own backyards and look at other events, topics going on in the world??? It just appears there is a spiralling inwards of information, relative only to the US.. What's going on outside your window?? |

just to be honest with you "jess" in my world i pay attention only to
possiblities of potential military conflicts. in regards to living a "normal" lifes with views from around the world and actions and so forth i really am quiet ignorant unless those views are hostile. we(I) never really pay that much attention to the good stuff or positives going on, and we (I) dont really take the time to concern ourselves with anything that we dont have an intrest in or an association with or will have a direct input on our own family structure (little corner of our own worlds). sorry wish i werent more egocentrical, hows the aussie doing anyway? doc |

i'd love to hear more from around the world, down under, europe, russia,
all of the other places... i dont know why we dont want to know more, after all it is our diversity as a nation that did make the US the most very blessed on the planet. it only stands to reason that diversity in views or knowledge of whats going on in the world, not just opinions of US but the mood of the pklanet, where is it all heading towards, what new and fascinating ideas are abound. doc |

I wouldn't like to misinterpret what you wrote in your post... and for the record...this site is going international.. I sit here as an observer, and find it fascinating that I am getting slammed and critised for asking a question.. and I have another..is no-one interested in looking outside your own back yard? Do you all want to keep it just one band, one tune, don't look any further than the end of the sheet music you are all playing on? Curiosity, and interest is what I have...so I ask...didn't know it was such a volitile thing to have.. |

Jess, you are absolutely right. One of the fabulous thing about this
site, was that there were folks here from many walks of life and that includes outside this country. So give us a challenge, what's happening that concerns you out your window. Let's see how many of us can do our own reseach and strike up a discussion about those concerns. We might just find out a lot more about ourselves than we thought we would. |

Something which is affecting my country and I would like to share
information regarding it later..is Drought. Water shortages..globally..taken from www.solcom.com/drought While much of the weather that we experience is brief and short-lived, drought is a more gradual phenomenon, slowly taking hold of an area and tightening its grip with time. In severe cases, drought can last for many years, and can have devastating effects on agriculture and water supplies. According to United Nations estimates, one third of the world's population lives in areas with water shortages and 1.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water. Climate change has also provoked more frequent and intense droughts in sub-tropical areas of Asia and Africa, exacerbating shortages in some of the world's poorest countries. While the world's population tripled in the 20th century, the use of renewable water resources has grown six-fold. Within the next fifty years, the world population will increase by another 40 to 50 %. This population growth - coupled with industrialization and urbanization - will result in an increasing demand for water and will have serious consequences on the environment. Projected Water Scarcity in 2025 By 2025, 1.8 billion people will live in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity. Most countries in the Middle East and North Africa can be classified as having absolute water scarcity today. By 2025, these countries will be joined by Pakistan, South Africa, and large parts of India and China. This means that they will not have sufficient water resources to maintain their current level of per capita food production from irrigated agriculture—even at high levels of irrigation efficiency—and also to meet reasonable water needs for domestic, industrial, and environmental purposes. To sustain their needs, water will have to be transferred out of agriculture into other sectors, making these countries or regions increasingly dependent on imported food. Many African countries, with a population of nearly 200 million people, are facing serious water shortages. By the year 2025, it is estimated that nearly 230 million Africans will be facing water scarcity, and 460 million will live in water-stressed countries |
