Topic: I Have To, Why Shouldn't They? | |

they need to do that in Pa but there are ways around it im sure Its federal law and all states must adhere to it, now drug addicts must have been arrested for it for the laws to apply i know a few drug addicts who have been arrest that are collecting welfare checks so someone messed up some where in the office They may have undergone an approved rehabilitation and once completed are eligible again. maybe so if they did but are right back to doing it again woudnt the drug test come in handy here? Yes but it would have to be reported. Social Services can not go and test everyone who has had a drug addiction arrest. Its just not viable, our offices are already so overwhelmed with applications recerts and changes, that we simply do not have the man power for one. If you know things like this, make a call for investigation, it will be investigated. It may not happen as quickly as you like, but it will get done. |

Social workers are understaffed there. They have way too many caseloads.

but if they started weeding out the ones who fail wouldnt there be alittle less cases to have to worry about?
all the money they waste on these people has to be more expensive then a piss test |

oh but they are thats why its called welfare faud! Oh no they are not, not here anyways......the most a family of four can even receive in a month is 463 dollars. And if they receive welfare the state takes their child support. Most peoples child support is higher than welfare, so they don't even take it. Welfare laws rules and regulations have changed dramatically and change more all the time. Since the law changes there has been a 40% drop in welfare recipients in this state and many others. Seakolony, I don't understand how they expect a family of four to live off of $463/mth. I know that the food stamp amount is not high either. Yes well that's what they get, most of them have to live in public housing, rely on food benefits (no longer food stamps), get help with electricity, and childcare if they are working or in school F/T. I work as a Senior Social Worker in Health and Benefits. I see what happens everyday. And those drug slingers that have been caught dealing and trafficking are not eligible to receive any benefits. Drug addicts must go through a treatment facility before being allowed to receive benefits for cash or food. I know a couple people that have been on welfare. It bothers me when people stereotype welfare recipients as getting rich so they stay on it. It's called poverty! And...they can only stay on it for 5 yrs. in my state. 5 yrs???? you sure???? I know good honest people on welfare and know the lazy ones. Even if I report it...nothing happens. Yes, there's a five-year lifetime limit on payments. |

but if they started weeding out the ones who fail wouldnt there be a little less cases to have to worry about? all the money they waste on these people has to be more expensive then a piss test If you have called it has been investigated to the best of Social Services ability. The only other thing is report it to the police. They will go to jail and not receive benefits. Testing gets quite expensive in itself. If were to test someone for drugs each time they come in, it would waste time and funds. Plus it would only take one person out not the whole family. Its not the kids fault, the choices of their families. |

If that's the case, report them to Children and families. You have so many avenues, but you should learn the policies and procedures of how they handle things in PA. It is available to all citizens. Check into what department does the investigations. For our state it is called ARMS. |

Most of those on assistance are dopes, stupid or lazy or all of the above.
I know because I have met some. But, this is not my main point. I actually don't want to know what is their problem, if they use drugs or not, do they have a giant tv or not. This is not my business. I want to know this: Whatever their problem happens to be, what gives them a right to use government guns to take my money? This constitutes nothing short of justification for robbery and theft. Why? Because I may feel that I am down on my luck, now should I just go and rob some people and steal some stuff? Mind you, bypassing the government this way creates exactly the same result, but keeps our collective expenses low, as we do not need any services to consume their budget managing this idiocy. Just leave a note: "I am down on my luck, and therefore I should have a right to take your money!", and no need for any investigations. |

Some good and bad to however you answer, looks like more taxes to me? I didn't know a UA was the cure to all situations. Seems to open up a whole new can of worms. I am beginning to think there may be some here that are a bitter that they are required to take a UA. This of course is passed onto those who are not in the loop necessary. |

Friend of mine sent me this in an email. As you can tell, he's pretty frustrated. Opinions anyone? I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes, and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to earn that pay check, I work on a rig site for a construction project. At any time I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem. HOWEVER, what I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Understand - I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sit on their butt, drink beer and smoke dope. Could you imagine how much money this country would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? If you agree, please pass this along, or simply ignore it if you don't. Hope you will pass it along though, because something has to change in this country. We have already been through this on this site several times. There would be no money saved by drug testing people who receive benefits from the government. The cost of the drug testing alone would be outstanding, private employers pay for their own testing. Second, one should not ever assume that all people who are on assistance or even most are druggies unless they are prejudice, hatefilled, discriminating and ignorant folks, which I am sure there are none of those on this site, right? Isn't it funny how the poor in this country have to be the bane of all in the eyes of the prejudice in this country. I guess kick the underdog while they are down is always the best policy. My opinion here of course. |

but if they started weeding out the ones who fail wouldnt there be alittle less cases to have to worry about? all the money they waste on these people has to be more expensive then a piss test It is not plus once you find out the poor have a drug problem the humane thing to do, just like employers do is pay for them to go to rehab so if this is done like the employers do then the client will get drug testing and rehab out of the deal and will be eligible for benefits once they complete the rehab program just like most employers do. |
