Total camp. The dance that went along with this song (The Freddy) was not to be believed, but a catchy tune nonetheless.

Hey Mr. Music, Hey now. Ya still there? Rackin' the ole pea tryin' to remember a 'Yakety-Yak' cover that was almost Zappa-esque. Think they were the Pips, almost fall down the hole at the end of the record? Remember, by chance? You're close. It was The Pipkins (the same group that gave us "Gimme Dat Ding") in about '70 or '71. It didn't fare very well, and it never even cracked the Top 40. Speaking of which: The Pipkins - "Gimme Dat Ding" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEEy615Jzg4 Oddly enough, the lead vocalist (low voice) is a guy called Tony Burrows, who was also the lead vocalist for such groups and songs like Edison Lighthouse ("Love Grows [Where My Rosemary Goes]"), White Plains ("My Baby Loves Lovin'"), First Class ("Beach Baby"), and the Brotherhood Of Man ("United We Stand", "Save Your Kisses For Me"). Exactly, that's what I was tryin' to lay hands on, "Gimme Dat Thing" - and their cover of "Yakety-Yak". My bro and I must have worn that out, it was SO much fun!!! Thank you dear!!! G' day all, keep spinnin', ahhh... |
