Eric Clapton left the Yardbirds over this song. He didn't like the "direction" the band was going.

More British Invasion No Milk Today-- Herman's Hermits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClQepFF-Sr0 Excellent choice! I was torn as to which one to post, either this one, or "Listen People". I went with the latter. I like the lesser-known hits, also known as NPA's, or NPMA's (Not Played Anymore, and Not Played Much Anymore), and FLG's (Forgotten Lost Gems). |

Hey Mr. Music, Hey now. Ya still there? Rackin' the ole pea tryin' to remember a 'Yakety-Yak' cover that was almost Zappa-esque. Think they were the Pips, almost fall down the hole at the end of the record? Remember, by chance? You're close. It was The Pipkins (the same group that gave us "Gimme Dat Ding") in about '70 or '71. It didn't fare very well, and it never even cracked the Top 40. Speaking of which: The Pipkins - "Gimme Dat Ding" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEEy615Jzg4 Oddly enough, the lead vocalist (low voice) is a guy called Tony Burrows, who was also the lead vocalist for such groups and songs like Edison Lighthouse ("Love Grows [Where My Rosemary Goes]"), White Plains ("My Baby Loves Lovin'"), First Class ("Beach Baby"), and the Brotherhood Of Man ("United We Stand", "Save Your Kisses For Me"). |

Many say that when Dave Davies sliced the cones on his little green amp and cranked up the volume the resulting fuzzy distorted sound signalled the birth of hard rock

Just as the rest of the music world began cranking up the amps, i.e., Cream, Led Zeppelin, Vanilla Fudge, etc., The Kinks decided to once again fly in the face of current trend. They changed over to a mellower accoustic sound.
