Topic: Would you go or not? | |
---|---|
My neighbor and I are really good friends. We hang out when waiting for the school bus, my kids and their kids are always doing stuff together so we hang out then too, we just hang out a lot.
Well the other day, her brother (who doesn't live there and who is happily married) invited me and my daughter to come over for Christmas. They have a lot of family that will be coming over throughout the day. The thing is, because it wasn't my neighbor that invited us personally, I don't know if we should go or not. I know we would be welcome, but do you think it would be right for me to show up, when the neighbor wasn't the one who made the invite? |

I would ask the neighbor about it in a round about way to see if it was mentioned to them |

I think the important thing to keep in mind is you were still invited. I'd like to believe his invitation was harmless without any hidden intentions incase that's what you're worried about. It's possible he was just trying to be friendly and thought it would be nice if your kids and such were there on Christmas day with his sisters and/or his own.
What is the harm in going if you do? But I would still bring it up to your neighbor. Maybe just be blunt and ask "did your brother tell you he invited me to your house?" Sometimes beating around the bush can send wrong messages haha. |

Take a bunch of booze with you when you go. Everyone will be happy to see you.

The brother is very happily married and even their kids do stuff with my daughter, so it was an invite based on friendship and nothing else, lol. I think what I will do is just visit them on Christmas Eve and let them enjoy Christmas Day with their family. It just doesn't seem right imposing on someone else's Christmas, invited or not.

I don't think it would be an imposition, especially since they know you, you know them and they invited you, even though it was the brother who did the inviting. I am sure the kids would love to be able to see each other on Christmas, play a little tell each other what toys and gifts they got for Christmas. |

I can see why you feel this way. You're right, but a lot of people prefer a busy holiday. And going by how often you and your neighbor hang out, your neighbor may consider you family. I know I consider some of mine family. |

NJMom and Mysticwriter, I never thought of it that way. Hmmm, maybe I will make a visit on Christmas. Now I really have to give this some thought, lol.

If you feel uneasy about it, maybe have a chat with your actual neighbor. Tell her that her brother invited you and you are wondering when the best time would be to stop by. I agree, some people just love a busy holiday, seeing friends, seeing family, and just having a crazy busy day. |

Since the invite didn't come from the homeowner, I would decline. |
