It all depends on the type of lady I'm dating. Some ladies obviously are more shy than others. ladies have different ideas of when dating affection should be shown so I play it by ear. Often times I mess up and end up out on my rear.

I try not to leave the kiss as the last thing. Much better mood if we kiss on the date and not as a desperate "last chance".
Of course, if she wants one, then I might just give a good night kiss.
Edit. And who shakes hands after the third date? Hug, anyone? Or is this some politically correct etiquette in United States that I'm not aware of? |

Sometimes you just know, id advise holding hands during dinner. It means you are sitting close. And i guess complimenting her hands, or vice versa would probably lead to intimicy. If there is a moment of silence where u stare into each other's eyes u may try for a kiss, i would also suggest saying a manly cool line.
This happened to me on a first date that lead to a serious relationship, so this may not fit unless you both feel chemistry between both of you. |

I find that the third date is when things start sparking and all the exciting stuff is getting ready to happen. If I take someone to dinner on the third date, I will bite the bullet and lean in for a kiss, no asking. The last time, it was between courses (I guess I didn't want to wait until the end of the night). More often than not, it is welcomed.
