bow down on his carpet face whichever way he has to and pray to allah

Who cares what religion he is? Do you honestly believe that Christianity is so holier-than-thou? Have you never heard of the crusades, or Hitler? More people have been tortured and killed in the name of the Christian faith than in all other religions combined. Quite frankly, I hope he is Muslim, or Jewish, or atheist or agnostic. Being a non-Christian does NOT equal terrorism or Godlessness.

how you can think Iraq wants us out, when we our providing their entire military force so to speak, and doing everything for them, is beyond me. They do not want us out. Otherwise they would already have stepped up to the plate, taken responsibility for their own military and police, etc and we wouldnt be there.

Iraq, for the most part, doesn't want us out. We pull out, they start killing each other. Iran, Syria, Turkey, maybe even Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, will all fight over a chunck of the broken country...

I have your back on that. I know many Iraqi people, and have met many, many more.

However, we cannot afford this foreign policy of ours. It's costing us trillions. We are going bankrupt at the expense of our own citizens. We are also destroying the value of our own dollar...

Iraq will, and should take care of itself someday, hopefully soon. But i hope we learned that we cannot police the world anymore. We can no longer be the U.N.'s private army.

We need someone to look at our foreign policy as a whole, not just Iraq... (tsk, tsk, Obama...)

Driven,

I keep hearing on NPR news that Iraq wants us out. They have offered a deadline for us to leave.

I heard today that Obama has looked at the other countries but he needs to fix our financial problems first.

Thanks for the info. flowerforyou

Do you think we should look at the our foreign policy before we look at economy? Since that is one big cause to a lot of problems...

Either way... keep an eye on Obama with me. We will see what he eventually offers. Remain skeptical, as i will. But he does deserve a chance...

I think that the whole world has their eye on Obama. I can't imagine the stress of that.

It's a tough call - foreign vs. our economical crisis. The war is eating up our money and taking lives. Yet, we can't abruptly end it. I don't have the wisdom to know best on this.

But...Obama is showing signs that he is looking at our financial situation.

Oh no doubt he's looking at it. But i wish he would phase troops out of everywhere. I also wish he hadn't mentioned wanting to "give more civilian and military aid to third world african countries". I hope he backs down on that.

As far as the economy goes, Obama would be wise to cut spending where he can, as soon as he can. When you lower taxes for everyone, people have more money, and will therefore be able to spend more.

He would also be wise to end the printing of money, and direct some of the spending towards cutting down our deficit, as a lot of our taxes go to the payments...

He did mention a stimulus package. (Sounded a little like Bush's) Which is a good idea for a temporary fix. It buys time for a plan...

Obama kinda screwed himself by voting for the Stabalization act though. When we feel the affects from it, it will hurt.

But, he is still inexperienced, and has a learning curve to overcome. He's not dumb, so if he really wanted to, he could help us.

As you mentioned earlier, he's got a BIG mess to clean. Even someone that cleaned it aggressively would take 10 years probably... And that's in congress, and the president agreed on GOOD, DRASTIC, conservative ideas...

I've heard about the stimulus check. It does sound like what Bush did. That will only help for a few months. Hmmm...Christmas. lol

His inexperience doesn't trouble me that much. He will have his advisers and he's smart. I'm more troubled by any new president having to deal with all that's going on now.

This is from the Obama site:

Barack Obama will responsibly end the war in Iraq:

Immediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: successfully ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased.

That was written before Iraq said it wanted us phased out.

Yup, i read that in his home page too. But i wish he applied to that foreign policy in general, not just iraq.flowerforyou

Iraq may have just been a political move to excite followers....

Inexperience doesn't bother me either. He hasn't had the opportunity to prove himself yet... He will though.

And BTW whether this was his plan or not, Iraq phased withdrawl began a month or two ago... (Supposedly)

"Expand our Diplomatic Presence: To make diplomacy a priority, Obama will stop shuttering consulates and start opening them in the tough and hopeless corners of the world – particularly in Africa. They will expand our foreign service, and develop the capacity of our civilian aid workers to work alongside the military."

"Fight Global Poverty: Obama and Biden will embrace the Millennium Development Goal of cutting extreme poverty around the world in half by 2015, and they will double our foreign assistance to $50 billion to achieve that goal. They will help the world's weakest states to build healthy and educated communities, reduce poverty, develop markets, and generate wealth. "

"Support Foreign Assistance to Israel: Barack Obama and Joe Biden have consistently supported foreign assistance to Israel. They defend and support the annual foreign aid package that involves both military and economic assistance to Israel and have advocated increased foreign aid budgets to ensure that these funding priorities are met. They have called for continuing U.S. cooperation with Israel in the development of missile defense systems."

He definitely doesn't want a noninterventive policy...

He used to have his plans on sending more troops to Afganistan in there. As well as plans to go after high priority targets in Pakistan...

But lets hope he wises up...

Has anyone here ever seen the friezes at the SCOTUS building?

The South Wall Frieze includes figures of lawgivers from the time before Jesus and includes Menes, Hammurabi, Moses, Solomon, Lycurgus, Solon, Draco, Confucius, and Augustus.

The North Wall Frieze shows lawgivers from the time after Jesus and includes representations of Justinian, Muhammad, Charlemagne, John of England, Louis IX of France, Hugo Grotius, Sir William Blackstone, John Marshall, and Napoleon.

The figures represented there were not all Christians. What they had in common was...wait...I am not going to say what they all had in common.

Maybe those of you who are so concern about Muslims and others not like you should give it some thought and who give us the basis of our current law and government.

I invite you to search those names and find out about the people who shape law and judicial thought.

You might learn something.

I don't know how he can clean up the hole our country is in. I think it is going to get real tough before things get better.

People who are in over their ears in debt are going to have a very tough time. We are going to have to insist on keeping our jobs in this country with quality products. Build affordable houseing. Educate all children equally and well. Institute Service to Country. Stop impoverishing people to have health care. Build mass transit so we don't need to burn fuel we don't own and pave the majority of farm land so we have to import food. Realize we can not police the world or bring vets home to live the rest of their life unemployed because we don't have accessible much of anything because we write laws and don't enforce them even 30 years later. We can put robots on the moon but we can't recycle the majority of our trash or create technology to reduce costs. That is a lot to expect Obama to do in one or two terms.

Yes, he faces enormous challenges - the war, the economy and the high unemployment rate. I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. Fixing the economy is going to be a long, hard road.

The first thing he will do is RAISE TAXES frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated rant rant rant

Some taxes probably NEED to be raised. how do you think the country is going to be ran and cared for if we do not provide the money needed to do so?
The first thing a democrate wants to do is raise taxes. You haven't got a clue. THE MORE MONEY YOU HAVE IN YOUR POCKET THE MORE [YOU] SPEND. THE MORE [YOU] SPEND THE MORE JOBS THERE ARE. IF YOU STOP SPENDING THEN COMPANYS WILL NOT SELL THEIR PRODUCTS THEN THEY HAVE TO LAY OFF. OR HAVEN'T YOU EVER THOUGHT OF HOW THE COMPANY THAT YOU WORK FOR MAKES THEIR MONEY. TALK TO YOUR BOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im getting layed off because of this tragic event myself
Don't feel so bad I just got laid off last week, I had a job with the City. I lost my chance for my pension by 2 years.

Sorry that you lost your job, but it wasn't because of the democrats. It's who is in office right now!! Can't you realize that or are you too brainwashed too?

soooooo....I thought you believed in the separation of church and state !...laugh ...actually...I think he'll do a good job...in time the economy will start picking up as is usually the case in a normal business cycle...right now it's in a downturn...in my case...as long as he doesn't govern too far to the left socially...I'll sit back and be the good Catholic boy that I have always been...

Funny thing, most of the past century they usedto have to vote in republicans to end wars started by democrats.... (Korea, Vietnam)

We should not blind ourselves by blaming one party. Both are guilty, and until onesees that, he or she is brainwashed.

Democrats.... Clinton started more wars than Bush... Doesn't seem like it does it? It is true.
Clinton's wars:

Somalia
Haiti
Iraq (Desert Fox)
Iraq (Ongoing bombing)
Afghanistan
Sudan
Yugoslavia

His death toll is almost as high as Bush's too.

Federal spending:

Increased 35% under Clinton

(And 45% under "conservative" Bushgrumble )

The dems pushed pretty hard to get this bailout through.

Obama (as much or more than McCain) praised it, the dems in the senate and house voted it through both times.

The republicans in the House voted it down the first time. They were bought the second time around though.

The minorities of both parties are the ones speaking against things like this. Dennis Kucinich, Ron Paul, and a handful of others. These peopel also saw this crisis coming years ago. We neeed to pay a little less attention to people like Obama, who want what we've been getting, and start paying more attention to the ones that want good things for us... Use the internet a little more, and get a little less informationfrom the television as it is government owned....
