Topic: Roadrunner Obama vs. Wyle E McCain | |
---|---|
I was listening to the Diane Rehm Show on NPR radio this morning on my way to work and Andrew Sullivan a senior editor at Atlantic Magazine was one of the guest speakers.
He referred to the presidential debates as Obama being like the Roadrunner - calm, cool, collected and not drawn in to McCain's attempted punches. Whereas McCain was much like Wyle E. Cyote in that his strategies against Obama were poorly thought out, in many cases incorrect in definition, and he ended up at the end of each just sitting there with a puff of smoke drizzling up from his head. I had to laugh. There is alot of comparison there. What are your thoughts? |

I think Obama will be terrible for the country. He's a liar and a manipulator. He claimed that his plan would only raise taxes on 5% of the country and also on corporations. Either Obama is stupid or he's lying, because corporations don't pay taxes. They pass the added debt onto their customers or their shareholders or both. Raising taxes on corporations also causes them to seek countries that are more corporation friendly. So Obama's plan will eliminate jobs, raise prices and reduce the size of 401k for middle class Americans.

I was listening to that too. But..I got out of the car right when they were talking about the Road Runner.
I thought it was interesting when they said that McCain was doing the Rope A Dope and Obama didn't fall for it. Gotta give Ali credit for that phrase, btw. They said McCain looked angry throughout the debate and tried to pull Obama in. But...Obama stay calm and collected. And....that demeanor is what we want to see in a President. During that same talk they said something that I found interesting. They said to making any tax cuts right now would be bad during the recession. |

Obama seemed to be flusted several times in the first part of the debate. (curious since that part was on the economy... his strong area). Obama also showed several times with he appeared to be angry. Since I watched it split screen I saw them both at the same time. Obama showed far more anger than McCain... and anyone watching Obama for the last several weeks knows that when he smiles he's been hit hard... How many times did he smile in that debate. Anyone that believes the pundit hype is allowing them to think for you. |

I studied both micro and macro economics in college. I learned all about the trickle down policy first proposed by Ronald Reagan. Despite his allowing businesses to keep more of their money, it didn't work. They did NOT reivest the $ in their businesses. It only made the owners wealthier and their empoloyees poorer.
Go Obama!! |

Tee Hee Hee... Wrong analogy... More like rabbit Obama. Turtle McCain. We all know how that race turned out. i didn't see that. i really think obama stayed focused. During that same talk they said something that I found interesting. They said to making any tax cuts right now would be bad during the recession. i agree, tax breaks to the big boys is the most idiotical thing i've heard so far. |

Anyone that believes the pundit hype is allowing them to think for you. I saw it differently than you did. So did my family and friends. I saw McCain as an irate man. Obama maintained his calm, classy demeanor throughout. I think that Obama smiles when McCain tells untruths. I would rather see someone with Obama's demeanor as President. |

McCain did come across to me as condenscending, righteous and instigative. (not saying it's positive or negative, just my view) Obama did come across as more reserved, professional, calm and eloquent. (again not saying its positive nor negative, just my view) I believe what I can see, find out for myself (always hated follow the leader), and definitely too outspoken to have others speak for me. It is ok to agree to disagree, but this is what makes us all great, individuals, we can see one thing yet come to two different conclusions. ![]() |

That sounds great...except the Company can then setup shop in a foreign country (taking more jobs) and then sell to the US without the added cost. There are many small countries that would welcome a major corporation for the added jobs it would bring. Companies are THINGS not PEOPLE. You cannot tax a company. You cannot end tax breaks for a company. The end result is that you effect the owners and consumers of the company. Since everyone with a 401k is a part owner in one or many companies, you are passing the tax onto the 401k holders. The purpose of the company is to make money for the owners, therefore the company will move out of the country if it makes sense for the investors. Raising taxes on companies ALWAYS results in loss of jobs and higher prices. |

well, yes you are probably right in your opinion, but it doesn't make mccain look much better. someone has to pay for this bullsh1t our country is in and do you honestly think it's going to be the CEOS? not unless someone else steps in and TAKES it from them. So you feel that it's okay for one person to decide another person has too much success? That's really scary. We live in a capitalist society, we keep what we earn. What you are proposing is redistribution of wealth. Such proposals always result in damage to the economy, because you are punishing the people with the most success. Why should they continue to work hard? It just means they will pay more taxes. You bring everyone down instead of raising everyone up. |

Despite his allowing businesses to keep more of their money, it didn't work. They did NOT reivest the $ in their businesses. It only made the owners wealthier and their empoloyees poorer. Go Obama!! Your teachers failed you. According to a 1996 study[26] from the libertarian think tank Cato Institute: * On 8 of the 10 key economic variables examined, the American economy performed better during the Reagan years than during the pre- and post-Reagan years. * Real median family income grew by $4,000 during the Reagan period after experiencing no growth in the pre-Reagan years; it experienced a loss of almost $1,500 in the post-Reagan years. * Interest rates, inflation, and unemployment fell faster under Reagan than they did immediately before or after his presidency. * The only economic variable that was worse in the Reagan period than in both the pre- and post-Reagan years was the savings rate, which fell rapidly in the 1980s. * The productivity rate was higher in the pre-Reagan years but much lower in the post-Reagans years. http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=1120 Remember, the Cato Institute is a liberal institution. |
