Topic: YES OR NO TO Friends with Benefits? | |

Mike,
I'd like to ask...I read your profile and it states that you like poker. Some Christians feel that gambling is WRONG....any form of it. Is gambling not wrong in your eyes because you enjoy it? |

One more time around...I address this to you...it is sad that you would say no to a 18 or 20 year old having uncommitted sex but would change that lesson with age..A good leader sets examples and lives by them...A bad one says its okay for me but not for you...
You mentioned individual choice...What a sad excuse for lacking moral turpitude ..Sex I believe was for procreation and not for feeling good..I will state it again for you...I believe good sex is a reward for a good relationship and a committed one. .How hard is that to understand... Do you personally look in the mirror and smile afterwards with someone who is not committed to you.Or do you think ,maybe i am being used.Have you ever felt shorted when you have given your body to someone who is gone? How about the simple question? Would you date a male whore? I personally do not want my mate to be all wore out..I think it says something about their moral fortitude. Are you just is trying to make it right by forgetting the rules you would give a 20 year old.. |

As good as I am at poker , I have quit playing for money because I feel it is wrong to take from folks who can not control themselves and do gamble their savings away..I consider gambling to be when money is on the table....self control once again comes to play...I assure you I could go make a living at poker and decline to do so...It is not my place to cause others pain by taking the money offered up just because I can...

Are you just is trying to make it right by forgetting the rules you would give a 20 year old.. No, I'm not. When my children weren't, in my opionion, able to think through things for themselves, I offered what I thought was always best for them. However, when they became ADULTS, they were no longer in my charge and I would never become a meddling controling mother and try to rule their lives. They are individuals just as I am, who now have their right to choose how to live their life, just as I did, mistakes included. I wouldn't FORCE anyone to live under my morals or "rules" that was adult enough or had the mental capacity to make their own decisions. I drive a car every day, but would I let my 13 yr old go out and drive? No, not just because it's illegal but because there is no way they have the ability to make certain judgments that driving an car entails. Your argument about how raising a child and how ADULTS behave, doesn't hold water to me. Adults have certain mental capacities that children don't. |

But it would be ok if you cause pain to others in other ways, as in judging them to be whores because they choose a different belief system then you? |

I believe an earlier poster used the word "discreet".

Your answer is so wrong in so many ways...apples and orange argument...I asked about your advise to a 20 year old female not a kid in a car
I have a granddaughter who at the age of 8 was driving a golf cart and by ten I have taught her the ways of the road.I give her advise and it will never change..right is right ,wrong is wrong...I have taught her that if she gets dangerous ,she may get hurt and that will stay with her. The ground work for a good adult life is a good foundation and for you to say you would not force them to obey you is saying you did not get through to them in the 18 years given to you to do so..If you lived a clean upstanding life and set a good example ,no force is necessary..The reward in this case is you looking back and being proud because your children followed your example... |

Prostitution is NOT a crime; Solicitation is why they go to jail.
I said people don't marry for financial reasons; I meant the legal system after you marry at our age, requires a contract to make sure property is divided according to the original owner's wishes. Yes, I raised a son & stepdaughter, they know my approach to life, no complaints & my deceased wife's last order's included & I quote; "Have fun & I never expected you to be a priest." I respect your opinions, but offer that you seem to voice words of "judgement" that I don't think are your right. You speak of God & religion; I offered to you earlier "let them w/o sin cast the first stone." You live as you want & so shall I. Don't judge me & I won't judge you. |

Mike,
I'm trying to understand your concept.... Playing poker for money is wrong. Playing poker NOT for money is ok. Then I would ask...do you play poker with any age group? Or do you only play poker with adults over a certain age, or do you play poker in secret where NO ONE ELSE could ever SEE you? Poker has ruined several lives and families. Shouldn't YOU then, under your own belief system, NOT play poker at all in order to set a good EXAMPLE? |

Not ALL children who grow into adults follow the teachings of their parents EVER. Some do, however, at a more MATURE age, realize that their parents example was a better way to live. You're picking in the apples and oranges bucket too sir! |

My answer to that is that I play for fun not money now and I do not hide when I do it..How has playing poker for fun ever ruined a life..You baffle me with your belief system.. Don't put words in my posts that I didn't say. I didn't say playing poker for fun was wrong! I didn't even say playing poker for money was wrong! I stated that SOME Christians believe that gambling is wrong, that playing any card games for money or NOT for money is wrong. You stated in your own thread that you quit playing for money............. Poker is NORMALLY associated with playing for money. Poker players have an assoication with gambling. I didn't say anything any body did for fun was wrong. But you can't just pick and choose, if you're going to believe in a certain belief system and try to get others to follow you...then you have to stick to that system fully. Using poker as an example as being associated with other forms of sin by people of your OWN belief system, then you can't play poker, with or w/o money because it's associated with sin. Again, do you play poker with any age group? If you won't play poker with children then why would it be ok to play with adults? And again, I'm referencing to other posts you made. Your baffle me just as much with your own belief system. You told me not to pick apples AND oranges but you're doing that very thing! |

This is going nowhere ...you are like a brick..You brought up poker not me...You obviously do not know of sites that millions play at for free every day..are they doing something wrong because you believe all poker is associated with money...I think you are misguided..and misinformed..
as an added note poker is a form of numbers and odds and all kinds of mathematical equations...why would I not teach my child how to play and then warn them against the dangers of playing for money..one has little to do with the other..One is a form of math and one is for profit..can you not see the difference? |

By your own belief system, then why would I not teach my child about sex and the dangers of it and then when they are ADULTS, out of my control, let them decide. Again, the OP stated...AFTER THE AGE of 50...not as a child or young adult. And, maybe debating with me or I with you, really isn't a good idea, because I came from your very own belief system, so I KNOW it as well as you do, but I chose, at an ADULT age to follow another and it was MY decision to make. Judging other people and what they do is not my right any more then it is yours. Jesus himself said...JUDGE NOT!!! It was your act of judging that led me into this debate with you. And this I will give you, I AM like a brick when it comes to other people judging other people's choices and calling them Whores. |

If I may put my 2 cents in. My late husband and I used to play poker for money.Every month or so we'd get together with family and friend. and have a great time. We had our limits though on how much money we'd play with. It wasn't big heavy duty poker games with thousands of dollars. I miss those days. I haven't played poker since that was 20 some years ago
