As long as you do not ever complain about your country or anything to do with politics (or talk about them).... there is no problem.

I would say a bad person is an inaccurate description. I would describe non voters as irresponsible citizens, and sociologically selfish individuals. But that hardly means they have a bad character or are "bad" overall.

I would still rather keep non educated voters out of the booths. What good will that do? Closing your eyes and picking someone?

How do you know they're not educated?

I was thinking she was talking more about educated voters, not educated as in school. But, my question still stands. How would she know?

I think most people dont vote because they dont understand the voting process. If they made it easier for people, I think more would vote!flowerforyou

No youre not a bad person because of this...but you cant complain about govt when you didnt even vote.
I would agree with this to an extent. Adding my own opinion to this would include people who have not been paying attention to the issues, so when they come up during election years, don't feel they are educated enough about them to make a stand or even to have an opinion about them. I would rather they sit out than to vote for the candidate they think dresses the nicest or kisses more babies. flowerforyou

Great point......

I'm willing to bet that is why I get to say Buck Fush.

Maybe I should add that the non politically educated are irresponsible as well, IMO. Minutia..... seems to be incorporated in my statement.

No one is perfect, and we are all irresponsible about some things, or prioritize certain things over others. My opinion is what it is, albeit I recognize I'm far from perfect myself.
I have to admit, I had no political initiative until my mid 20's. I didn't feel like I had a right to vote without knowing more about the issues...so realized I needed to get a clue if I wanted to have a say in my own countries policies. I did not vote until I felt aware and had an opinion to be weighed.

Some people may NEVER feel the need. Nothing is important to someone...until it becomes so. flowerforyou

I don't think I'm gonna vote this year, it's pointless. IMO the powers that be are gonna put in who they want no matter what anyone says to the contrary. This whole voting thing is just to make us feel like we are doing something, when in reality we're not doing anything. Besides that, I don't think very many in the government truly give a damn about us anyway. They're all on the same team more or less, and only serve to further their own agenda.

by design our Gov't is not a democracy.....
(It is a federal republic)

your individual vote does not matter...That is exactly why I DO VOTE....and it why you don't vote......either that or you are a convicted felon and are banned from participating in our election process.

NO, it does not make you BAD..

To some extent, I agree with you. The powers that be do have their own agenda and it has nothing to do with OUR interests but their own. However, and and as I stated before, if everyone who felt the way you do DID vote, it would and could make a difference. Those idiots in office (both parties, I think all professional politicians are idiots) would be long gone if people would simply wake up from apathy and realize the power they collectively hold.

Not surprised at the responses I'm getting, but I stand by the comments I've made.

You really think it would make a difference? What about hanging chads, diebolds, etc etc.

I agree we do have some power, but not sure if it's to be held in voting.

See, now you're talking technology instead of politicians. Those are 2 separate issues. I agree they can be problematic but it's not as problematic as the media and politicians made it out to be. Believe me, the issue was blown way out of proportion.

Then you write in someone. The people who do not vote are the reasons for what you complain about.

Yes but what I'm saying is it doesn't make a difference who we write in, the powers that be will just put in who they want, push for who they want no matter what.

Ok, well what about the fact that the heads of each state can actually override the people who voted if they so choose? They don't have to go with who we voted for, if they don't like the result they have the power to change it.

THERE it is! Was waiting for this one! It, in this Country at least is called "sufferage" and I take it very seriously. I agree with most everyone else...not voting IS making a statement and with it goes every right to complain.

Whether I choose to vote or not is my right. That doesn't make me selfish or irresponsible. And that doesn't take away my right to complain about my government or country.
I fought to GIVE U that right and there are STILL people dying EVERY day cause of many peoples apathy is letting that happen!!!

As did I.

If you choose not to vote, yes you are being selfish because there is alot of blood spilt just for that right. Yes the goverment is screwed up, but by doing nothing and crying about is not going to change it. It is just a excuse for not getting involved. It is not a choice but a right and responsiblty, to those whom payed the ultimate price.

Also you vote on alot of local issues that your vote really does make a different.

So stop b##tchin and get out there and vote it is your duty.

Okay, so let me see if I understand this correctly. So because you guys fought for my right to vote, I am now obligated to vote or I have to vote because it is my duty? I thought I had the right to choose whether I wanted to exercise that right or not? And now, because you guys say it's my duty and I lose all rights to express my opinion about my government (which I could have sworn was a right I had regardless if I voted or not) I am being forced to pick a person that I don't like just to keep everybody happy and to keep my right to complain?
How does that make any sense at all?

And if I do like one of the candidates, vote for him, and then he turns out to be an a$$hole, then where does that leave me? I voted for Bush, and look how that turned out.
