As long as you do not ever complain about your country or anything to do with politics (or talk about them).... there is no problem.

I would say a bad person is an inaccurate description. I would describe non voters as irresponsible citizens, and sociologically selfish individuals. But that hardly means they have a bad character or are "bad" overall.

I would still rather keep non educated voters out of the booths. What good will that do? Closing your eyes and picking someone?

I think most people dont vote because they dont understand the voting process. If they made it easier for people, I think more would vote!flowerforyou

No youre not a bad person because of this...but you cant complain about govt when you didnt even vote.
I would agree with this to an extent. Adding my own opinion to this would include people who have not been paying attention to the issues, so when they come up during election years, don't feel they are educated enough about them to make a stand or even to have an opinion about them. I would rather they sit out than to vote for the candidate they think dresses the nicest or kisses more babies. flowerforyou

Great point......

I'm willing to bet that is why I get to say Buck Fush.

Maybe I should add that the non politically educated are irresponsible as well, IMO. Minutia..... seems to be incorporated in my statement.

No one is perfect, and we are all irresponsible about some things, or prioritize certain things over others. My opinion is what it is, albeit I recognize I'm far from perfect myself.

I do not vote. I am not going to go into the whole thing on y I just don't. But I just got called a bad person, because I do not vote. Does not voting really make one a bad person?

It doesn't make you a bad person but it does take your right to b*tch away about ANYTHING.... If you don't vote you can't say a word about how your government is run or it's politics.

Whether I choose to vote or not is my right. That doesn't make me selfish or irresponsible. And that doesn't take away my right to complain about my government or country.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem... just my thoughts...

It would be like me saying, "GAWD, I hate how much we waste and the planet is going to sh*t" then not recycling....

or

Complaining about our poor school systems and not teaching my daughter at home, or not voting for school levies.

or

complaining about how horrible men treat women then acting like a silly tramp and allowing myself to be used by them.

No action IS an action...

OK, so I pretty much went from being a bad person to being selfish and irresponsible? WTF!

noway frustrated

Our government was designed so that the people (you) have a say in how your life is run. If you choose not to vote, that's a personal decision. However, by giving up your right (and it is a hard-fought right, especially for women), you give up your voice and your freedom to choose. That is what could be seen as irresponsible and selfish.

If every person who said there vote didn't matter actually went out and voted, think of all the things that could be accomplished.

You're not selfish, but you do limit yourself... why would you want to do that?

To me why would I want to let great women of history down and not do what they fought and died for me to be able to do?

If you don't want to vote, that's your choice. However, I never want to hear someone complaining about what's going on in the country if they won't vote.

Our political system here in the states was designed that all citizens would feel priviledged to vote so they would.

Only appx half of the people who are eligible to vote vote and you can bet your ass the rich, white folks vote. So where does that leave our voting system? Not showing the true Americans desires, that is where it leaves it.

I would not say you are a bad person but the fact you do not is the reason we will never have a government that represents us all accurately.

Explanation needed here. Someone thinks my statement of "rich white folks" sounded prejudice so let me explain.

Rich white folks priorities for the government they want is different from poor white folks or poor minorities.

Rich white folks want more tax breaks for rich corporations because that is what they are. This plays out in the political fields as "less taxes". Even poor folks will go for it to their own detriment.

Rich white folks want less government control because they want to live their lives free of control. But the problem here is rich white folks do not live in neighborhoods where guns run rampant on the streets and innocent lives are lost daily. Rich white folks do not have to ask the government for help so naturally the "welfare state" is a problem for them. Poor folks will buy into this too thinking that their tax dollars are paying for others "to live a lazy lifestyle". It is to their own detriment.

Rich white folks think their way of life is right, whatever religion they utilize should be good for everyone, regardless. So they have no problems with religion in the government. Heck, by their way of thinking, they are helping the masses who "do not know better for themselves". To the poor folks own detriment.

Just a few examples here but you can see the point.

Rich white folks run our government and until all who can vote do, we are doomed to this type of government.

As did I.

If you choose not to vote, yes you are being selfish because there is alot of blood spilt just for that right. Yes the goverment is screwed up, but by doing nothing and crying about is not going to change it. It is just a excuse for not getting involved. It is not a choice but a right and responsiblty, to those whom payed the ultimate price.

Also you vote on alot of local issues that your vote really does make a different.

So stop b##tchin and get out there and vote it is your duty.
