Have you found anything great while at a rummage sale or flea market?

Im always afraid to put older things out at my sale in fear someone will buy the item and later have it featured on Antique Roadshow worth $25,000 when I sold it for a quarter!

I found some antique fine china at my neighbor's yard sale, 4 plates for $1.00. I felt guilty buying it because she was a younger girl and probably didn't know its worth.

I never do, but my Mom? OMG, she is always finding stuff like that. I don't know how she does it, but she finds all the good deals like that.

there was a lady outside Indianapolis a few years ago who was trying to sell all of her grandmothers things. SHe had a painting that she had marked for $25. This guy tried to get her to sell it for ten bucks but she refused cause she felt it was worht $25. well after she closed the yard sale she was sitting at her desk with the painting beside her and just for fun typed in the artist's name...WOW!!!! the painting was worth $1.5 Mill...lol
so be careful...lol

My ex-husband passed away about 18 mos. ago, and my sons have a huge storage unit full of his things that they're trying to decide what to do with. He collected antiques, and so many other things---Longaberger baskets, snow babies, antique clocks, etc. They don't know where to begin, and I don't know what to tell them. What would you all suggest? I'm sure some of it is too valuable to sell on a rummage sale. I suppose they could call an appraiser of some kind to look at it. Any ideas? think Thanks!

They would probbley be better off hiring an appraiser to appraise the items. Then perhaps they could advertise the items in the newspaper.
There are alot of antique dealers looking to buy.
Make sure the appraiser is NOT an antique collector themselfs because they sometimes under bid items so they can buy them theirself cheaper.
Then they turn around and sell them for what they really are worth.

Thanks, and that's what I'm afraid of, that someone will "under-appraise" things that are actually antiques. I know nothing about antiques, and neither do my sons. Can't believe he collected so much "stuff". I have a friend in Boise who is an antique collector, but her husband is a jerk and rarely lets her come back here. I'll have to check around! Thanks again!flowerforyou

Great buy for you, Mike, but I'd say she was kind of shooting herself in the foot, don't you think, but underpricing everything? JMHO!

Try a local auction house, they will take your stuff and have a vested interest in getting the most out of it since they will get a percentage of the sale value flowerforyou

Don't let them pay you a set price for it and take it!!
