Here in N.Y. we heard of the salmonilla scare in tomatoes so, we stopped buying and eating them. Now their saying that it may not have been tomatoes at all ...so we have gradually started tomatoes again...ohhh how I missed them!
My co worker said she will not start again unless their home grown..any opinions? |

I always buy my veggies from the local farmers market. Never had a problem no matter what national scare is going down.

I have home grown. Since most food born illness starts in your own home I would be more worried how I clean up at home than what I buy. Use 1 tablespoon clorine bleach to 2 pints water and spritz between each task. Throw out the sponge and run scrub brushes through the dishwasher hot cycle each meal. Really wash your hands frequently and and cook less so fewer leftovers. Fully clean your refrigerator weekly. Use a themometor to fully cook foods and one to make sure the refrigerator is cold enough. Keep ice in covered containers. DO NOT recycle plastic bags for food use. Consume the resturant food you buy at the resturant or throw it out; you have no idea how old it is the day you are served it. Use a magnetic knife rack and throw out wooden cutting boards and utensils. Store toothbrushes away from the bathroom area and keep them cover. Use an insulated luch bag that is cleaned each meal. DO NOT eat at your workstation or while typeing or answering the phones. BETTER HEALTH PRACTICES SAVE LIVES AND MISERY.

I was never a big fan anyway, so I haven't missed them much. Now they're saying other things are tainted, scallions - I forget what else. Enough already!
