You should really seek guidance with translating the bible. You have taken this passage too literally. You can not take one sentence and say oh look, look what it says, you must read more than that.
What he is really saying is that a woman should not dress and act like a whore. She should be reverent in manner, language, and modest in dress.
I am Catholic and to us it does say women should not preach in Church, but they should teach their children and be active in charity within the community. Catholics do not think the words of the father change because something becomes the in-thing. (popular to society) They think the word and teachings have the same meaning today as they did when they were spoken.
Many denominations however, think it is OK for a woman to Preach in the Church, and they do. That is their denomination and I do not judge them for that as many women are very knowledgeable. If they weren't god would not have asked them to teach their children and keep god in their families heart. That is a big responsibility and should not be belittled or taken lightly.
By Christians it usually isn't, but to those who look for any phrase within the bible to take out of context and mock it is done quite often.
Take the OP of this thread for instance. The thread screams of a miserable soul in search of company in his misery. He has no real knowledge of the bible. He spends way too much time trying to convince others he does, and Zero time trying to learn or understand. He spends every waking moment taking passage after passage, post after post, picking at it, and over analyzing it in his quest to convince himself, and anyone else that will listen, that he is the all knowing authority. (self-centered profanity)
Anyone who spends that much time and effort on a subject which they proclaim disbelief in, is either fooling their self or ate up with hate, anger, and misery.
It is a shame to see esp knowing that all he has to do is ask and Jesus will enter his heart!

You can't have it both ways.

To "seek guidance" with translating the Bible means that I would have to choose some authority I respected and trusted who was unbiased to translate ancient scriptures.

I'm afraid I don't have a lot of trust in authority.

So I listen to many, and I do my own translations. I wasn't really serious about the "out of context" scripture in question. But I have noticed many people do believe women should keep their mouths shut.

Do you know that at one time the Catholic church did not even consider a woman to be human?

Do you know that black men won the right to vote before women did?

Of course you do.

Women have been repressed by the red dragon mentality for centuries. It is not just a simple "out of context" piece of scripture. And it is a complete statement and a complete sentence.

Well actually...it was just the OPPOSITE for me.

It took me a loooooong time to actually "get it." I circled the mountain about 30 yrs or so.

Thank God He doesn't count time or success the way we do.
