I didn't start smoking until I was 30, living in Europe. I always thought smoking was bad, but I didn't discriminate against smokers. I guess I'm one of those old fashioned idiots they call Americans who believe in personal freedoms.

But the French and Italians smoke like chimneys, and one night I was stressed beyond belief and lit one up. I realized I LIKED it. And so for 3 years, I've smoked occassionally, meaning, whenever the hell I want. I may smoke a whole pack one day, and may not pick one up for two weeks. Or, I may go through a phase where I'll smoke a pack within a week. Whatever. I'm not smoking a pack or more a day, but if I did, I'd offer no apologies.

I figure if you don't like people who excercise their rights to engage in the pleasure of their choice, so be it. Good for you. But stop with the judgemental "why do people still smoke" nonsense. I could be wrong, but I'd wager everyone on here got their information on smoking from a commercial, Dateline, or a news story. And of course EVERYTHING you read is true.

Bottom line is it's scientifically proven that cigarette smoke can be harmful to you. Just like alcohol, California air, and just about every morsel of processed food that you holier than thou individuals eat. But we've all been programmed to ignore the fact that througout history, people have used tobacco products in moderation and never developed cancer. Hell, in Europe EVERYONE smokes and lives longer lives than Americans.

If I date a non smoker, I won't smoke around her, and even when I go out with friends, if they have a problem with it, I'll do it in my own orbit out of consideration. Beyond that, if you don't want to kiss me after I've used the bottle of listerine that I keep in my car at all times, more power to you. I've never had a problem finding or keeping a girl. You actually think on a planet of 6 billion people you're special enough to change one persons opinion, especially when it comes to something they like? I'd call for a reality check.

Why are there so many women (and I suppose, men) who still smoke? Seems like whenever I see someone on here who looks interesting to me, they turn out to be a smoker (which I am not). And please tell me...who smokes "occasionally"? Either you are a smoker or you're not!!!!

Ok, I know I'm gonna hear it from the smokers now!!

I smoke when I drink - that's about it. I haven't had one in 4 days.....Friday I drank a few and smoked a few. So YES, I smoke occasionally.

Let me ask you a question, does your sh!t not stink?

Some people only smoke at social events. Like going to a party and have a cigar. I'm pretty much a social smoker, but sometimes when I go out I'll smoke about half a pack a night.

quite frankly....the smoking law in florida has HURT the economy here. people used to enjoy going out for dinner or coffee to the local establishments. since we cant smoke, no one goes out like we used to. waitresses arent making the tips, businesses losing patrons, etc.... if im paying $100 for a meal, i damn sure want a cig after and enjoy it with a cup of coffee...if i cant...screw it...ill bbq at home!

We all have our habits. To each their own.

Some people smoke.

Some drink.

Some over eat.

Some pinch pennies.

Some are gym rats.

Some bite their nails.

We all have our differences & choices we make. Some are healthy and some are unhealthy. Its their prerogative!

Smoking is not a habit. It's an addiction.flowerforyou

I would like to say something about smoking. I am an occassional smoker, btw. Before my child, I was a pack a day smoker. I plan, soon, to be a non-smoker. My child needs me.

My father was a smoker until he was 59 years old. He is now 70 years old and healthy except for what smoking did to him. I love this man dearly. He gave me some news last night.

Six months ago the doctors told him that he has severe COPD.
Now he has chronic bronchitis. He is going downhill.

If he hadn't smoked all of those years, he would be healthy now.
He is very down about this. He wanted to be around longer for his wife, me, and his grandchild.

Awww, thanks, Debbie. flowerforyou He's a wonderful Dad.

No, Debbie. He's going to die from it. That is what I meant by saying that he was going downhill. My Great Aunt died from COPD from smoking too. It was painful to see the pain that she was in and I dread the fact that my father will have to go through that.
