I am reminded tonight of a converation I once had with my brother about why people often become depressed as they get older. He said it was because they run out of "firsts"...first love, first time leaving home, first time driving a car, first child being born, first real job. Life becomes monotonous and each day runs into the next and there is nothing left to look forward to. I can remember at the ripe ole age of 38 getting a touch of the baby blues for I knew after my second son was born there were to be no more babies for me. It was true I was no longer the mother of babies for my children were growing as they tend to do.I always knew somehow, how very privliged I have been to witness their first steps, to watch my cherub cheeked boys grow whiskers on their chiny chin chins and become men. As time goes by they are changing and so am I and that is as it should be. I would not stop time if I could for then they too would be frozen and unable to grow and change. Change is a part of life. I think perhaps for many they have stopped seeing the world in all its wonderment. They have stopped being awe struck by what occurs around them each day. They have stopped trying to find the adventure in living. I am reminded of it, the wonder, the magic each and everytime I look at my chldren or my grandchild. May this new year remind you of all that you been blessed with in your life. The pain and the laughter for it is part of what makes you who you are. May it also bring new adventure as this new chapter in your life begins to unfold.There are still firsts..look at me got my first Bachelor's at 46 and will have a Master's at 49. Thus launching my life into a whole new direction. In a year I will begin a whole new decade of my life, God willing. There is a certain calmness that comes with middle age. It may just be that I have taken stock of my life. I have lost ones I love but yet my time on earth is not quite done so I do not take for granted the time I have been given. I have a job to still do. Find your purpose and go forth and conquer

mash some potatoes
or pehaps make some biscuits
sometimes it might be a turkey breast
or pork roast or maybe potroast

or a to-do list
lemme just run get a pen and paper
jot this down..

there is something to be said
for a lovely written love letter
on pretty paper
