I love auctions, old estate auctions, antiques, etc. I bought a box of books one time, old old old books. I came home and was flipping through them and an old post card fell out of one. The postmark was dated 1919, a Christmas postcard, addressed to RR2 (Rural Route 2...) here locally. It has the coolest old Santa smoking a pipe with a little verse on the front. I kept it and would get it out at Christmas time. One night my folks were here, Dad picked it up and looked at it and said "where did you find this??"...I told him...he laughed.... That postcard went to the house where he and his twin were born -- the year before his parents moved there! He knew both the sender and the recipient!! Small world! What color of outfit does he have on...if it is not red you have a postcard worth some $$$ |

My ex-husband passed away about 18 mos. ago, and my sons have a huge storage unit full of his things that they're trying to decide what to do with. He collected antiques, and so many other things---Longaberger baskets, snow babies, antique clocks, etc. They don't know where to begin, and I don't know what to tell them. What would you all suggest? I'm sure some of it is too valuable to sell on a rummage sale. I suppose they could call an appraiser of some kind to look at it. Any ideas?  Thanks!
This is right up my alley.....Tell them to get a box and sit down in front of ebay.....they might be in for awaking for what some of it is worth....I have been dealing in antiques (junk as we call it) and collectibles for 30 years....yea I started when I was 8.....and I make a nice living off ebay...I go to flea markets....junk shops....yard sales....Matter of fact a couple of weeks ago...I was in a junk shop and bought some Military Money from 1968 (31 of them) for $25.00 just sold 3 of them on ebay this past thursday for $278.00....today I spent $61 and got about $150 worth of stuff.... So don't let them get it appraised as alot of the appraisers are dealers or know dealers....tell them to do it themselfs using ebay... |

You know maybe this is my problem...I try and put the people that I care about or want to get to know ahead of me....maybe I should put myself first and the heck with everyone else... You couldn't be self-absorbed and cold like that if you tried ... I can tell by your comments here that you have a great heart - don't change a thing! 
But it doesn't seem that people want someone with a great heart... I know it doesn't seem that way ... oh, how I KNOW that feeling - but we can't lose hope. This online stuff has been a real eye-opener to me in terms of how quickly people's interest wanes and how very little they're really willing to invest in the process of finding what they claim to want so badly. I've often wished I could just be one of those people who let stuff roll off their back, who could yell 'NEXT' when someone disappoints them, but at my core, that's not who I am. I care (too?) deeply and that can be a bit of a handicap here sometimes, imo. Learning, learning, always learning. You know this online stuff use to not be this way...I have been on the net off and on for 10 years....I met my exwife on an online site....before I met her people really took the time to get to know you.....then after being with my ex for 4 years and now divorced I have come back and found the whole online stuff has changed.... |

I find that people who are too set in their ways and unwilling to change even the little things.......end up being alone. Idk.....maybe subconsiously they like it that way.....no heartbreak.
Subconsious...or safe? I think it's more the later, and it's highly overrated! True but there are some men on here that don't want sumpin sumpin on the side....me being one of them....I want a shared life with each other having their me time....plus I like my sumpin sumpin on top... |
