1. Open PC
2. Listen to where the sound is coming from
3. ???
4. Profit!

FWIW, the bearings in a fan(s) are probably going bad. Replace fan(s). Or, your PC could just be loud.

Many sites employ scripting (or something) that notifies users of new messages and events. E.g., Gmail has a pop-up when you get a new message on Google Talk or AIM.

oops i keep hitting the f5 key(refresh button lol)

Hahah, I can totally see it F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5...

its so on the off chance I get an e-mail, a little one will appear on the mail thingy when it refreshes.

Hahah, thanks man. That makes sense. I do find it super annoying though. You'd think there would be a better mechanism to tell you when you have mail. Or at least refresh less often.

Why is it that every page on this site seems to reload about once every 10 seconds? It never seems to add any content or change anything and it messes with auto-scrolling.

When deciding which anti-virus software to buy, this is a good site to check out first. http://www.av-comparatives.org/

They have a comparative test of most of the major/best AVs.

Free: According to the site I linked to, Avira Antivir misses only %0.4 of over 1.5 million types of viruses. However, it does have some drawbacks like false positives, and a prompt to buy the premium version when updating.

Pay: Eset NOD32 and Kaspersky are the two best, pay or free, IMO. In the last retrospective/proactive test, NOD32 had no false positives, yet it still caught 71% of malware that was yet to be discovered based on it's virus definitions (heuristics). Kaspersky managed 41% with a few false positives.

Did it give you a specific error code?

This site has some good steps for troubleshooting. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080124125819AALvA68

Have you tried signing in with the regular "Windows Messenger" that comes with Windows as opposed to a version you need to install?

Do you get any error codes when you try to sign in with MSN Messenger?

Hmm, did you try this http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread3379.html ?

It may be that windows messenger is automatically signing on.

You should try an online virus/spyware scanner. E.g., http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

or

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

BTW, do you keep finding the same problems with Ad-Aware, etc? If yes, you might try looking up that specific malware and the fix for it.

I personally use Miranda which you can get here http://www.miranda-im.org/ . You probably should be pretty comfortable with computers to use that one though.

I used to use Pidgin (formerly Gaim) because it's pretty user friendly.

Both of those support multiple protocols at the same time, like MSN, AIM, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber...etc.

But if you have went so far as to reformat your hard drive, then i would suggest looking at your firewall settings to make sure you are allowing Yahoo and MSN

Are you sure you have uninstalled and reinstalled the programs correctly? Otherwise, you should get a different IM client like Miranda, or Pidgin. That way you only have one program that handles all your IM needs.

Seeing as how the creators of the show draw a lot of inspiration from Greek tragedy I half expected something like that to happen. I kind of wonder if this last season will end on a high note at all. But this show is still the best!

By the way, that spoiler alert really sucked. I saw the spoiler right away because my resolution is set fairly high.
