It means they can't choose; always think there is something better around the corner; or, have fears of getting too close with anyone. Sadly, it is themselves they are unsure of and do not know. Their self esteem is lacking....and they are afraid of getting too close either because they think they'll get lost in the other, be eventually abandoned or rejected, or always see something lacking in another because of extreme perfectionism in themselves. Makes for a miserable existence. Awesome insight, but I think that applies to anyone that cheats as well.

Same here....or at least the extreme severity of it....till after the move into my home. No wonder I was never permitted to visit their place. I ended up moving several states away, to the middle of nowhere

Well, you've got me as a friend, too. As for patterns....yes, the other has issues no one could live with. But, we have to look at ourselves to see what it is that attracts us to those that have such terrible character flaws. That is only so that we can be more aware and avoid making the same choices in the future. She kept her flaws pretty well hidden.

Doing my best to cope with the help of friends who care about me and love me; doing my best to vent and process and cry in private. But, I have never been the stoic type. Patterns is what I am most afraid of repeating. I am grateful for the wise, caring people in my life and I am trying to have Faith in my Higher Power. I am the same, but unfortunately no friends here where I live, but the people on here have helped alot. It's not my pattern I am afraid of repeating, but waiting to see if she can change her patterns.
