just another way to get more people killed for a stupid reason

people get kicked out of colleges for taking things that came from other peoples heads, and just because they could retrieve it for free off of a page in a book or an internet, doesnt make it theirs to claim as their own,,,

some professors win prizes for ideas they stole from students. no, it dosent make it ok to steal just because you can, but it is not going to change. piracy is still going to happen in force. the negative effect on the rest of the webernets is what we need to avoid.

it would be obvious that google wouldnt support the bill, google's primary focus is as a search engine, and affiliate marketing gets them most of their money. they arent part of hollywood. what i mean when i say no competitors is that a company in hollywood that supports the bill ordinarily isnt going to change their stance just because their business competitor will benefit from it as much as they will. also google is only political opponent of hollywood. when it comes to business as a whole, google does an immense ammount of marketing for them. the entertainment industry wants to be sole distributor as well as to be responsible for the creation, thereby monopolizing the slot for a purchasing source. piracy forces them to keep their prices in check in order to make it more convincing to not break the law and pay the meager amount rather than break the law because they would otherwise pay an insane amount.

furthermore, i never said there would be an absolute buyout, but rather to be wary of the representatives who have cast there lot on the side of greed so that they can get their o so precious campaign contributions, rather than do what is in the best interest of the people. im not saying google isn't guilty of buying reps, it just so happens that google's goals match with the best interests of the people

like i said earlier, people have been stealing others ideas and property since the dawn of humanity. everything anyone creates or owns WILL BE STOLEN. it doesn't matter if it is protected legally of not, there are no exceptions.
if you don want others to have your property, intellectual or otherwise, without paying for it, than your only option is to not let it leave your head, because once it does, it no longer actually belongs to you no matter what anyone says to the contrary.

im going to go illegally download some music from one of the 500 sites i use to do so, just to spite this distasteful turn from what was once a decent topic.

GOOD DAY TO YOU MADDAME

agreed if the check is made during a traffic stop with an obvious violation, and not because of suspicion of illegal residency.

There are no "competitors" when it comes to legislation that benefits the entire group. the disney dosen't care if dreamworks gets revenue from the bill if they get a slice of the pie too. it's not about petty attempts to undercut you competitors, it's about increasing your bottom line no matter who you have to step on or help to do so.

i work for a company in Burbank designing graphic animations for new games. regrettably, coding and programming are not my department so i'm limited to a meager understanding of java, however if anyone needs advice on Maya or Mudbox, than i'm your man.

https://rt.com/usa/news/hollywood-obama-sopa-support-229/

Now Hollywood is pissed.....

See, this is part of the problem, those who dumped money into Obama's last campaign want what they want!!!
And who owns Hollywood??? Dare I say???

We should ALL be asking our candidates..
"what do your supporters want in return for their contributions?"

The bigwigs in Hollywood have NO problem seeing any of us locked up and or fined, they could give a rats *** about us as long as we keep renting, buying and going to the theaters to see movies.

Occupy Hollywood??

might wanna rethink that comment about obama's campaign contributors

Fox News, President Peter Chernin; Paramount Pictures, Chairman Brad Grey; Walt Disney, CEO Robert Igor; Sony Pictures, Chairman Michael Lynton; Warner Brothers, Chairman Barry Meyer; CBS, CEO Leslie Moonves; MGM, Chairman Harry Sloan; and NBC/Universal Studios, CEO Jeff Zucker.

this is a list of the people that "own hollywood" and other primary media sources. not a single one of these people or companies contributed to obama's campaign, and a good quantity actually opposed him.

however, you are correct in saying that they dont give a rats @$$ as long as we keep shoveling them money.

also i fully support the idea of an occupation.

DreamWorks /CEO Jeffrey Katzenerg is one, there are more.
The amount of contributors doesn't matter. Point is, they ALL take and those giving do have expectations.

I've said it before, I don't care if they make money, I just don't like that they buy my government.

sorry, i wasn't trying to make it sound the way it did, i was trying to say obama has almost no real power in the matter, as a bill can only be veto'ed once. if the senate and house both pass the bill a second time, then regardless of what the prez sez, it is still signed into law. the real thing to worry about is how many representatives that hollywood has purchased the loyalty of.
sorry for any confusion.smokin

even educated guesses are predictions,

but those people can label those guesses 'knowledge' as much as I can my religious beliefs,, I guess

I know, that in my park, in the ten years before I was accosted, noone had been in that park

that educated guess I made, that day, that I wouldnt be attacked was not KNOWLEDGE after all, because I was

I remember similar fear around the attempts to 'censor' child pornography and music and video pirating

yet, the internet is more abundant with information and misinformation than ever, porn is just as accessible, and so is music and video

its much ado about nothing,,from where I sit

You won't be saying that if this goes through I can assure you. And you do realize as much music and video is accessible, things and even complete sites (Megaupload was raided today by the government for example), do get targeted still. So censorship even if not in a complete form is very very much present on the net like it or not.

doesnt bother me, I Really am not upset that one cd cant be purchased for 10 bucks and duplicated for two thousand people for free

there are bigger things to fear, in my personal opinion

Except it's going to be FAR BIGGER than just "one cd". But I suppose you'll have to learn the hard way.

(sigh) I've said it before, I'll say it again, careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

Ive had it, before widespread internet and cable access, when I actually had to PAY for things people took effort to produce,,,

lol

If you didnt want to pay for something back then, you didn't have to. people have been stealing other peoples ideas and property since time immemorial. the internet is just an accessory for theft, its not a requirement to commit it.

the offensive censorship aside, the major problem is not the protection of rights the bill would potentially provide, but what would happen to the affiliate sites. the bill states that it would empower the government to shut don any site that is linked to a site that is suspected of advocating piracy. Google, yahoo, youtube, and wikipedia are the sites that 99.9 percent of internet users in the U.S. use to access other sites, including mingle. due to the fact that google is linked to nearly every site you can use to "infringe upon intellectual property", it would be shut down, and all the words anyone says here wont mean squat, because without these sites almost nobody will ever find this site. we need to protect these resources , which are not only used to break the law, but also to stay connected with friends and loved ones, get answers to questions they may have, meet new people, find jobs, learn new things intentionally or not, or to post opinions for the entertainment or education of complete strangers.

well, there is the option for GOOGLE, YAHOO, and YOUTUBE to cease from linking to the offending site to avoid being 'shut down', they sure do it on AOL when people dont pay their dues, IM sure these mega domains will be able to adjust when people are breaking the law,,

if you'd do a little research you'd find out that google can only keep up with about 12% of its source links, and that is just making sure the sites they link to are still running.they would be in constant violation due to the fact that hundreds of new piracy sites crop up every day, not to mention the many thousands that are out there now. the time it would take to carefully scrutinize each and ever site is so huge, that google would have to employ 70% of the us to monitor everything. the government cant keep online piracy from happening either, because they don't have the manpower. the only option they have is to hit the targets they can see and hope it affects the ones they can't. its like guerrilla warfare. if you poison a well, your enemies cant use it, but neither can you

ps thanks for the welcome massagetrade, makes me feel good to know somebody out there chats for the interaction and not just to gratify their own ego.
