thats frightening. what if some kind of state of emergency goes down? do you guys have the old WWII bomb sirens? We do. Every Saturday at midday, without fail. My TV is not going to matter if I running in the woods, if my students are on a field trip, there is always a way to get information across without a TV. |

I must say that this thread has been and eye opener for me as well. Made me look back when I was a kid the things we did as a family ect. Then as well when my kids were growing up for actually my kids did not and still do not watch much tv. My son was into sports from the age of 3 at that time we bought our first horse as well that we had for 17 years. With the horses came events of different kinds that we in fact got involved with so our weekends were filled riding and being together as a family. During the week my son was into sporting events as well we had to make. My daughter well she was my little book worm always studying and went with us to the events as well to watch and play with the other kids. But now my granddaughter is were the eyeopener has come in she is in fact addicted to the tv. I do get her crafts to do and sometimes we do some of them together but I in fact have as well used the tv as a crutch to keep her busy. You have in fact made me remember back how much my granddaughter is in fact missing out on that family time. The next time she is here I will make that extra effort to go to the park and sit at the table to play some games and shut that tv off. Excellent post I must say!!!......... A lovely post there too. I taught my children to cook, iron, knit and sew, I should have been a 1950's housewife, I would have loved it. We did crafts, made all our own birthday cards, laughed, jumped in puddles... Not to mention waltzing the rain... We can all state it is communism, or a touch of, but in reality, the idea is not such a bad one... |

Oh sorry, it is hot, in the 8o's.
I know that may seem glaringly chilly, to some but well, but we only have those extremes for such a short persiod of time and people do suffer. |

Getting hit on
|
|
Why do some people think it's okay to hit on random people? I'm at school doing my work and some guys just come up to me and start laying down lines, when I am at my busiest! I could take it as a compliment but at the same time it's just very annoying. It's especially awful when they get super aggressive, I thought school was supposed to be a safe environment? OMG!!! Isn't it just AWFUL when people think you are attractive and might actually want to get to know you??? The utter NERVE of some people to be attracted to someone. What is this world coming to???? Terrible isn't it? It's horrible!!! Sometimes I wish I wasn't this damn sexy and people would just leave me alone. Tough being a love god eh? |

Bad news for E-Harmony
|
|
Regardless if it was E-harmony or any other type of site even Books , CD's that you in fact order several of those type of things when you order the service they are stated within the print that they will in fact keep charging your account each month. You have to in fact call and cancel for the service to stop. Even though E-Harmony happen to be the one you dealt with on this issue it is not uncommon for many services to do the same that is why it is always best to read the fine print and ask questions when you give others the authority to charge your account for their services. BCA were classics at that, back in the 90's. You would order four books for a nominal fee, then each month they would send you lots more, you would send them back and they still kept coming and then they would send debt collectors after you. All because there was not a little box ticked about no more books. It is bad and 'fine print' should be made large print, I feel for the elderly with poor eyesight who fell into this trap and it is shabby behaviour that I find lare corporations do. Bad marketing, bad ethics and grab your money at any cost. BCA were reported to Watchdog and were exposed on TV, I believe the BBC aired the show. |

Once upon a time we had families who sat and played cards, boardgames, had conversations, sat at a table and ate, and when the food was gone, remained at the table...and talked, shared, learnt about life.... We used to sit for hours playing cards and scrabble, my dad worked away lots but at the weekends he was always with us and my kids were sporty so they did not have much time for TV. I don't mind some communism in my house! Ruthless like that I am. My kids know no different...they were born into conversation...closeness, a 'family'....it's familiar. Some of my most rewarding moments as a parent, is evesdropping on my kids, as they converse....the 12 year old's opinion is as equally respected as the 24 year old's....even their friends, of every age and both genders have remarked they love hanging out here... Dinner is more of a circus here,, and by far more entertaining than the 'canned laughter' of a sitcom. I love a busy home too Jesse, it was always my home as a child and now my home is also. |

Here in my country, when the sun comes up, I hide the remote, and unplug the tv... I can recall in the not so distant past....tv was from 7 am...and closed at 10 pm... all stations... was that communism? Hahahah!!!!!!! No Once upon a time we had families who sat and played cards, boardgames, had conversations, sat at a table and ate, and when the food was gone, remained at the table...and talked, shared, learnt about life.... Hmmm I smell communism ! There are still scents of communism here in Austria, given it's history, it is always going to be there. From the outside, I can see why people would think like that, but I am sitting on the fence, as to whether it is a good thing or a bad. On the one hand, I think it is good to curtail TV, on the other I can see how people feel about preventing people from doing as they please. Well if the parents do not reinforce that the children get exercise, then it leaves the government not other choice. The British government is spending millions (£) advertising the fact that children need more exercise. Now they have roped in a few athletes to visit schools to promote the need for exercise. Sommer, my brother-in-law is from your part of the world (Linz) Hi Bonny, yep, I agree. I know Linz, very well. Lovely city. |

cyber murder them?
Admins of few sites banished him but he found way to back . Maybe we'll need in the future IP adress - block buttons . Well, I don't think you can do anymore, unless you take it to a lawyer. Does he just stalk you on forums? Or by phone? By private email? Change your phone number, change your email and as for forums, keep away from him, even if he has come back as another moniker. You have a responsibility to keep yourself safe, if you give him no inroads he cannot get to you. |

CYBERSTALKING ...
|
|
A U.S. Justice Department report on cyber-stalking issued late last fall suggests that thousands of people may have already become its victims, although the report acknowledges that hard statistics on the crime are difficult to obtain. This is not some dry statistic . Each one who had/has this problem will tell you how serious is it. I'm a victim of a stalker who doesn't give up and he makes me feel terrible . I left all sites I like, I changed, blocked and reported all I can change, block and report but he finds me again and again . I changed everything like data, information and style about me but ... most of the new friends don't want to talk to me, taking me for some faker or scammer until they slowly slowly get me better . I know that this sounds crazy and foolish that someone can have such problem but this is really terrible for me and ppl like me .Not only me but he bothers my friends also . They stand by me but I don't feel well from all this . Have you been a victim of these ppl ? How you succeed to get rid of your stalkers and how do you react in these cases ? What is the best to stop their abuse ? Not something I have suffered, but I feel for you. I would gather the evidence, all of it and take it to a lawyer. Get some advice and don't respond to anything they say, write or mail you. The moment you do, you are allowing then to disrespect you, leave the disrespect with them. |

In a certain area, when the weather reaches 30degrees celcius, tv stations close down. Basically this means that no person can watch TV. To encourage people outside. What are people's thoughts on this? Is this control over people, or is a good thing enabling our children to be out in the fresh air? SOMMER!! ONE OF MY FAV"S About time you showed up here One of those that I really missed from the other world. Great to see ya !! Different name here myself.. but sure you will remember me if you look at the pictures in my profile. Sorry, Just so glad to see ya. Ditto.... Hello boys, how lovely to see you both, and Moblodite??? Pregnant again !!!!!
|
|
I'm sorry for the time it took me to rply to various views............. I dined with my children today, and just got back. My view on this is We are all at fault! I was raised to believe that the rearing of a child or children is down to the "village" e.g, extended family! As a child I had various aunts and uncles that my mother could call on at anytime to babysit. Gone are the days when neighbours were helpful and we all looked out for each other, I do despair at the state of our society when we no longer care about each other. This aside, the system has been failing our youngsters for many years, we have social workers who are clearly not experienced in their jobs ( yet they hold the key to making decisions that will affect countless numbers of people) You only have to look at past cases where Social Services messed up to realise that once someone assumes the position of a Social Worker they cease to let the milk of human kindness and common sense flow. Most of these "professionals" have the right qualifications for the job on paper but when it comes down to the wire, they fail!! They need to look at each case as an individual case and stop placing everyone under the same umbrella (no two families are alike) it is time these people started thinking outside of the box!! Look beyond this young woman's "crime" and start asking questions, as some of the respondents to this post have quite rightly said, she may be going through some emotional trauma which is causing her to think irrationally............ This is brilliant. |

With a dating site that has forums with many different topics, then no, I don' think it is weird.
On a site where it is only dating and nothing else, then a person who is married or in a relationship, I might be raising an eyebrow at. I like discussions, debates and to read forums, I see no reason to think it 'weird' if people are here and not wanting to date, or are in a relationship. |

seems like the government has "good intentions" but it's kind of showing a bit of communism to Agreed...but unfortunately, at least from what I see, if the TV was turned off, there's always the XBox & other games...or playing around on the computer...a lot of kids these days don't KNOW HOW to play outside! You could give them a ball, a kite, & a paper airplane & they'd STILL be looking for the remote control... But I'm not gonna just blame it on lazy kids...the parents are ultimately responsible for their sedentary lifestyle... The TV & computers have become the babysitters, teachers, & playmates...& they wonder why the rate of obesity is higher in the US among children than elsewhere... Exactly, so therefore, I would struggle to be so incensed at this if it were to happen in my city, which I doubt it would. Hallo, Phuque. |

Ha, ha, I am smiling at this as I know that many Americans would be appalled at this. And I can understand why, it does sound extreme, doesn't it? In more ways then one....I'm sure their intentions were meant good by doing that. But...........they did not put enough thought into it like you said what about the elderly or the ones that are bed ridding, handicap that can not in fact get out much guess they expect them to read if they can. With my kids I did not buy all the video game equipment therefore they did tend to go outside more. It comes down to what we put before them as parents where they tend to put there minds at. I mean we had movies and some indoor games but as well had all the outside stuff to they enjoyed. We are a very family oriented country. Most families, have fathers that come home for lunch everyday, the children are home from school earlier and usually the main meal is eaten at lunchtime, 'functional families' is the term I believe. No, perhaps they have not covered the whole of the people and that in itself seems unfair, but then there are areas where it is rare that elderly people are totally alone here, as families tend to live with each other. And let's face it, there are plenty of other things to do, indoors. I know one mother who allows her children an hour of TV every week, and they are always busy, they make lots of craft work, garden, cook, play games with each other. |

We do have a very good life here, the country is affluent and we are free to do as wish. The standard of living is high, healthcare is excellent, education is brilliant and little signs of poverty. It is no longer a communist country, there is a lot of bureaucracy and red tape, but on the whole, we are as free as you are in our day to days lives. But as with any country, there are conditions that are antiquated, strange and certainly make people feel that they are being controlled. And of course, Austria, is often attached to Hitler and has been known to be the instigators in WWW1. But this TV thing, was only something I found out about a week ago, to say I was surprised was an understatement. I teach English as a second language, so it should be good. Thank you. |
