Folks,

Attacking and insulting other members is not permitted on the forums. Any members who attack other members will be banned from the site.

We prefer to educate than ban, but we have zero tolerance for repeat violations. So please consider yourselves warned. Further attacks on other members will not be tolerated.

You may debate the message, but you may not attack the messenger. If you have an issue with someone, use the "Report Abuse" button on their profile to notify us and we will investigate and take the appropriate action. That is the only acceptable course of action you may take.

And remember, we will ban or suspend you regardless of how long you have been on the site, how many posts you have, etc. etc. The rules apply to new and old equally.

Thanks for your cooperation.

mingle2 definitely was a great site - that's why we wanted to bring Matt on board so badly! We're planning on bringing the best elements of both sites together here. It'll take us a bit of time, but hopefully you'll be happier than ever when we're done.

By the way, we actually do have Who's Online - just go to the "Search" tab and you should see a link just below it for Who's Online.

We don't have nudges currently but we're looking at adding something like it. In the meantime, you can also try our Mutual Match feature which serves a sort of similar function.

Hope you enjoy the site!

We've created a special area on the old mingle2 site where you can still access your old inbox. To check it out, go to:

http://mingle2.com/users/tmplogin

From there, you'll be able to read your old messages and contact your old friends to let them know what your username is on JustSayHi.

Please note, though, that this area will only be open through Oct. 20th, so make sure to reach anyone you want to keep in touch with before then.

Hope this helps! And welcome again to JustSayHi!

Folks - everyone needs to calm down on this thread. Personal attacks are not permitted on the forums. Continued violation of this rule will result in your being banned from the site.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Hi folks,

We need to take the site down tomorrow morning, Sat 10/6, at 9AM. This is going to be an extended downtime - we may be down for as long as 3 hours. I'm hoping the work we need to do won't take that long, but I can't make any promises.

Just wanted to make sure to give everyone the heads up. Thanks for your patience.

Mike

We're still looking into this issue. Unfortunately, we can't reproduce it ourselves so it's been difficult to debug. I've tested this myself on multiple browsers and operating systems and I've always been able to log out without any problems.

Is it still happening 100% of the time for you with Firefox?

Hi folks,

We launched a new feature last night. You can now search by interest. This works in two ways: when you are viewing someone's profile, you can click on one of their interests to see other users who also have the same interest. You can also click on the "Search" tab, then click on "Interests" and type in the interest you want to search for, i.e. "horses", "cooking", etc.

As a bonus, we added a "Search by Username" option on Search. Just click on the Search tab, then click on "Search by Username" in the search box.

Let us know how you like these new search options!

Hope you are all enjoying the site!

Thanks,
Mike and Vanchau

If you have instant messaging turned off, you won't show up as online.

Does it happen occasionally or all the time?

Can you tell me what operating system and browser you are using? Also, are you connecting via AOL or something else?

Folks - if someone is voting to delete your topic incorrectly, they'll lose their moderation privileges over time. We automatically track who voted incorrectly every time we reverse a decision. If someone has too many of their votes reversed, they automatically lose their moderation privileges.

So there's no need to get upset if someone votes incorrectly to delete your topic. If they do it too often, they won't be able to moderate any more.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys for posting this, we appreciate it!

But more importantly, THANK YOU for making JSH such a great place. It's the members that make this site what it is, not Vanchau and I. We just build stuff, but you guys make it fun.

Adj4u - I really don't mean to pick on you. You're not the only one that feels this way, and one issue I definitely see with the moderation system is that it isn't very transparent, so people don't know exactly what's happening or why. So people guess that there are more topics that are being deleted than there are, or that there is abuse going on by groups of members when there isn't, etc.

I do appreciate your bringing this up, because I know you're not the only person that feels this way. And if this results in a bunch of new ideas on how to improve the system, then I would be ecstatic.

So here's to you!! drinker Thanks for helping us improve!

I think the bigger issue is that we disagree on whether a topic getting votes for deletion is a problem if the topic gets saved. I think that mistakes are going to happen no matter what we do, so we need to design a system that can take that into account and still come up with the right result. I guess you're looking for something where everyone votes perfectly?

But look, please tell me if you think I'm wrong. I'm not trying to squash the discussion here. We're open to making modifications of the moderation system. If things aren't working, we want to fix them.

What I can't allow to happen, though, is for only one side of the story to be presented, especially when that side is suspicious of events happening that we know for a fact are not. That's my main reason for posting so much on this subject, because only Vanchau and I can see the complete picture with the reports that we have, so we need to represent the other side on this issue.

It's up for deletion, but it's going to get saved. It already has 3 "Do Not Delete" votes - just one more and it will be fine.

I just don't see that as a sign that the system is not working. I see it as an example of the system working as designed, i.e. even someone who nominates a topic incorrectly can't get enough votes for a wrong decision to happen.

Hey, I'm sorry if I seem pissy about this whole topic. I'm just super frustrated that people have factually incorrect opinions about the system and that this seems to be persisting no matter how many times I provide information on what's really happening.

I think the key misperception about the moderation feature is that people suspect there's a conspiracy of users against them if their topic gets deleted.

I promise you, though, if that was happening, we would know. We have all kinds of reports on the system that show us:

- Who's nominating the most topics for deletion
- Who votes on each topic
- If people tend to vote in exactly the same fashion as other users
- etc. etc.

So I can tell you for a fact that it's NOT people who are old time users voting together that cause topics to be deleted. I would love to show you who's voting on topics so that you could see that for yourself. But I know that would cause WAY more issues than it would solve. So you're just going to have to trust us that it's not happening.

I totally disagree with making the vote public. You'd have a TON more arguments and fights if people knew who was voting to delete their topic. If you want the forums to degrade into insults and hard feelings, making the votes public would be a great way to do it.
