one thing is being children today.
another thing is humanity in its infancy which is the case in the time when this section of the Bible was written.
context my good friend, context.
remember there are 4,000 years between abraham and Jesus. And who knows how many years before Abraham all these allegories started.
Also remember that first eleven chapters of Genesis are a collection of several oral traditions (call it a myth if that makes you happy) common in the semitic tribes of the mediterranean.
The inspiration of the author was pedagogical. He was tryng to convey a God's revelation through an easy language that the man of those days with his culture and naivity could understand.

it seem to me must americans call me unamerican because i dont agree with usa veiws.usa does not run the world.

that is why america pretends to do, and that is why we have horrific events such as 9/11. God bless those who died in that atrocity, but the government has its share of liability.
When the foreign policy of this government tends to the imperialism and alienation of the sovereignity of independant countries.
Right now USA is fighting a war against drugs in Colombia, yet they have a military base in my country (Ecuador). I just freakin hate the idea of having north american military personnel operating in my country. Since the problem is in Colombia they should have the damned base in Colombia. You my argue that my government had the right to say no. Yes, that is true, but since we are North American colonies which are obliged to sell our raw materials to Uncle Sam we need to do as the USA says, if not they impose economic sanctions over our export. That is the way how the ancients ran an empire that is the way is being done now.
Back in WWII there was a North American base in y country because it was an strategic place in the pacific. When WWII the soldiers left and they didn't take back the equipment nor did they leave for the use of our military. Instead they sank it in the ocean.
Just a dog uses somebody else's land to s*h*i*t, and does not even say thank you.

Freud was a pervert whom related all his theories with sex.
If he was able to say that a baby has some sort of sexual arousal while being breast-fed, he is not worthy of that much attention.
It is also proven with the fact that freudian school in psychology has lost a lot of its practioners.

again and again the same mistake of principles trying to prove events in the Bible through scientific tools.
a scientist should not even discuss the Bible because the only function of the scientist is to see if certain phenomena can be proven under certain given circumstances, and that's it. It's not his/her job to find out the ontology of things, but their phenomenology.
the story of the ARK has one and just one purpose which is to give preview of what the baptism by water will become to be at some point after my Lord Jesus Christ established His Church.
What does baptism do? Clean the original sin of the baptized through water. In the same manner as the imagery of the flood was intended to clean the sin of the world.
Another important simbology or imagery of the flood is the number FORTY which also were the years that jews spent in the desert after leaving Egypt. And also the 40 days my Lord spent in the dessert before starting his public ministery.
Again metaphors, imagery, or simbology used by the sacred author in order to illustrate a theological principle.
Therefore, the study of the Bible is for the theologist under the light of faith, and not for the scientist under the light of science.

I'm a catholic, and I believe in evolution as it regards to matter.
God took matter which already existed and gave it His breath of life (soul).
When matter (which already existed) and soul were united MAN as a transcendental being started living.
Soul which is God's breath of life is created individually, uniquely, and instantaneously at the time of conception. That is why we have a human life as early as in the moment of conception.
Therefore, to say that evolution as regards to matter (flesh, not spiritual) is not real is the same to say that the whole Universe was created in a 7-days period. Not much logic on it.

Another funny term North American use is "freedom."
Freedom? when people are slaves of credit scores, are slaves for five years for a car, slaves for thirty years with a mortgage.
Slaves of whatever tells them such as the war in Iraq is fair or the tortures in Guantanamo are justified.
Slaves of the commercial adds which floods the malls with paranoic buyers who buy a thing, use it once, and then the thing goes to the forget halls of garages and basements while the debts go higher.
Slaves of the Federal Reserve when each dollar issued already has a debt which the North Americans have to pay.
This government is selling the idea of "freedom" to make people mental slaves.

it's a good book by Milan Kundera.
Overall, it talks about what happens when as human beings we lose the sense of being.
For me (again I'm talking very personally) the sense of being is my final end or purpose in life.
What is that thing that I need to do with my life.
Whenever i lose focus on that being becomes light or with no sense whatsoever.
Now it's clear that comprehension of one's purpose in life is not something that just comes down as an epiphany, but it's like a process.
We accomplish small goals one at a time, the sum of all those small goals are supposed to give meaning to our lives.
Personally, my final end or purpose is find God's will in my life and get it done.
Again I can't say I have found God's will all in once, but one little step at the time.
Life becomes unbearable whenever it does not have a purpose regardless the fact the person is theist or atheist.
I think everybody must have something to pursue. Probably, hapinness as related to self-realization as an individual within a family or in a career.
I think that nobody can live without a purpose, it wouldn't make sense.
But then again these are my personal views each one knows his/her own life, thus it necessarilly follows that each one knows how to live with or without a purpose.

Potentiality is everything which can be whereas actuality is whatever already is.
As human beings we are a mixture of both we are actuality so far as what we are now, but we are always potentiality as far as what we can get to be.
For instance, a book after is done, does not have more potentiality because it already is what is suppose to be a book.
We human beings have the grace of always being in a struggle for self-realization because we are always potentiality of going beyond our actuality.
The only being who lacks of potentiality PER SE is God because He is all actuality. He is self-realized from and far beyond eternity.
As initial mover He does not need to reach anything He is everything, He is in everything, and He is far beyond everything.
Since we left our creator we became a dualism of potentiality and actuality. And we just will become full actuality when we come back to our Creator.
That is the final end of human being (as far as I understand. In other words my own personal philosophy). Whenever we come back to the Source, Initial Mover, God, or Heavenly Daddy (as I like to call Him) we will leave potentiality and become full actuality with Him.
If this is not my end as human being this life would not have any sense whatsoever to me.

My only confusion is the same since I started in this religion forum.
If the atheist, non-christian, pantheist or whatever you want to call it have reached such level of enlightment to render christianity and christians delusional why they feel so threatened?

Well Protestants, Catholics, Jews and Muslims have been killing each other for eons.

They are threatening to have a horrific mother of all wars over the Middle East.

I think atheists, non-christians, and pantheists have every right to ask them to stop it.

It's our planet too!

We live here. flowerforyou

Exactly. The majority of evangelic Christians support and incite WAR and joyfully look forward to Armageddon because they mistakenly believe that their Lord and savior is coming back to smite all of their enemies and take them to paradise.

In believing this, they do nothing for peace. They actually incite wars because of their beliefs. Onward Christian soldiers...etc.

Yes, I say stop! Stop trying so hard to fulfill some false Bible prophecy. We want to live on a peaceful earth. We just want to get along. We want to love our enemy like you said Jesus said we should. What happened to that guys? Huh?

JB

I'm not evangelical. Thanks God.bigsmile

In defense of my Church. It understood that using my Lord for war is just an attrocity centuries ago.
