i know of alot of lazy teenagers that wont get off their ass to save
their life so some of the illegals do work that lazy americans wont do! |

Anyone who crosses the American borders ILLEGALLY is knowingly breaking
the law. What does that say?? They are destroying our country AND our economy. JMO!!! |
|
|
|
I perform "illegal" activities on or almost on a daily basis, so I dont
feel I have a right judging others for crossing an imaginary line so they can feed thier familys and perhaps give thier kids a better oppertunity then they had. How many of you wouldnt do the same? "I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law." - Martin Luther King Jr. |

Droxfo,
Most pertinent question you raise. At the heart of this debate in my opinion. As for the quote, 'dead on'!!! It evokes the very foundation of all free countries. If the tables were turned, an American would do exactly the same thing, and he would do it BOLDLY!!! |
|
|
|
I guess my reply is this: I have been to Mexico and have seen the way
they had to live! (I think you know what I am going to say now) If I was from Mexico, I would do whatever I could to get away from there and work in America and send money back to feed my children!! I am not going to gripe at all about them working here and sending money back to support their children..sorry can't do it |

I never understood the hatred for foreigners - especially since this
country was founded by immigrants! You can't blame someone for trying to make a living. The only ones to blame is the companies that knowling hire illegal immigrants. These companies are doing an injust to US Citizens and those who legally are allowed to work here, but they are also doing an injust to the illegal immigrants as well. I think that it is important to remember that regardless if you are an US Citizent, legal resident and/or have a work permit, or illegal immigrant, that we are all human and we should all have compassion for one another. |

This is an excerpt from an unpublished letter to the editor of a paper
in California. Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. ******* why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home. They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity. Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan . They were defending the United States of America as one people. When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl. And here we are in 2006 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags. And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet. |

So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is
made up of immigrants. ******* for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry. Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr.***** why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Prejudice remarks are for the ignorant who have no further arguments on
the subject. I have many Mexican American friends. I graduated HS in Southern N Mex.. These ppl, (friends), are citizen, and are just as concerned with illegal immigration as I am. Grow up read, and educate your self. Mexican is a Nationality, not a race.. |

If everyone had a college education, then we would have a lot of
college-educated-ditch diggers, as well as the majority of people in other jobs. Are you better than a truck driver, a carpenter, a block mason. You my friend have illusions of granduer in the least diffinition, and are highly class prejiduce. Of course if you were educated you would know this.. |
