I haved lived within 20-30 minutes of DC all my life

It has ALWAYS been a high crime district, long before Guns really started getting involved in crime more..

Basically you ban guns, yes, over time they become more rare. But those who are determined to commit crimes in the first place will be the ones getting them through illegal means. In this case a disarmed populace will be more vulnerable making the illegal gun owner more powerful. A firearm is merely a tool. You can take a hammer away from carpenters but they will still build houses. They are also equalizers, the smallest woman in the world is just as powerful as the strongest, biggest man in the world if she is armed and knows how to use her weapon. Historically gun control has never really worked. In fact the Swiss i believe have been issued guns after reaching a certain age. there is little crime there. I think the defining factor is that they are issued them and taught how to use them.
