Topic: everyone should have to wait tables | |

been a server, fast food, and retail and now i am working to become a teacher, a job people don't fully appreciate. Here's a "tip" for ya...if you are not already crazy, become so QUICKLY before you begin teaching, or you'll never survive. |

BTW if I am on a date and my date treats servers poorly it is a DEAL BREAKER .... it is not impressive it just shows what a jerk they are ... if you really want to know the person you ae with, have the waitress spill something on them and see what their response is. If they get pissy, that how they gonna be when you are with them for a long while. How you treat others whom you do not know who are "serving" you is a direct mirror into how you will treat ppl who are close to you after a while. JMAO |

Yeah I waited on tables for 20 years and I loved the job but I depended on the tips for my pay too because I didn't make crap for my salary. I don't do it anymore but I am a great tipper I know how hard they work and how little they get paid

My mother waited tables 30 years, and had to quit after an accident left her unable to lift anything with her right arm above her shoulder. After my parents divorced, Her tip money was the difference between a little food on the table and none. I always tip very well, and the server has to be horrid for me to leave my 1 cent "message". That's happened only three times, and even then I hate doing it. |

I use to wait tables.. def sucked sometimes. But for the most part it was ok, esp when a group of girls came into eat. They seemed to leave the biggest tips.

I believe in tipping heavy. Although I do expect service. Servers need to be well trained because if they don't know how to serve and expect good tips, well, thats wrong. Most servers are awesome and if I'm happy I believe in 15-25 depending upon the service.

BTW, just so I'm not hijacking...I've waited tables too. Great money - and it all works out in the end. Some leave pathetic tips, some overtip. Just the nature of people. You'll never convince the under-tipper to tip well - and you'll never convince the over-tipper to do less than he feels led to do. |

my second job is waitressing. Some days its like fantastic and then other days your like WTH? I never ever leave under 15 %. And I've taught my kids that they are to tip the same.
Hence, my sons first date? lmao.. Their bill only came to about 20 dollars. He gave the waitress 40 bucks and told her to keep the change. I about died! I told him they would be fighting over who go to serve him the next time he came in. |

I use to bartend.. and you want to talk about frustrating. College kids I know stuggle w/ cash, I did too when attending college.. but we use to have quater bottles, and the little fuccks would only tip a quater or not tip at all, all fuccking night. So we just wouldnt serve the ones who didnt tip.. it was great too see their faces when trying to buy a drink for the lady friend and we'd ignore the shiit out of them.

I've been a busboy, cook, waiter, and in the military. When I was a waiter, I considered myself under contract with the customers at my table; I was their paid representative between them and the establishment. My job was to make sure they got everything they ordered exactly as they ordered it, in a timely manner, and within the capabilities of the establishment. The prep people and cooks hated me, because I demanded that they do their jobs properly. My customers never had to send anything back, because if it wasn't right, they never saw it in the first place. Consequently, I always got great tips. Now, when I dine out, if a server's performance sucks, then they get squat. If I get the proper level of service then I leave healthy tips. I have tipped 100% on certain occasions. |
