Why is there enough religion to incite war, but not enough religion to instill tolerance?

I have the perfect book for this topic! email me if you want the title.

do ya know what the first crusade was about?

Yes, 2/3's of Christendom had been taken by Muslims. They controlled the Middle East, Eastern Europe and were busy trying to take Western Europe. When Alexius I asked for help from Pope Urban, the Pope encouraged people to aid Alexius I in his war against the Turks. Some belief that Pope Urban was also seeking to reunify the Church, but it is clear that at least one goal of the crusade was to stop Muslim conquest.

the first crusade was Not against Muslims it was against the Druids because they believe that Women are equal, and in Christendom women were just Baby factoried, and it was started by Pope Innocent the II

I would be interested to learn where you get your information from. The Druids were wiped out in 60 AD by Pagan Romans, because of their supposed practice of human sacrifice. Since the druids kept no records and were wiped out almost 1900 years ago, the fact that anyone claims to know what Druids believed is absurd. Besides, I can't imagine anyone who was a "druid" calling themself a "druid", since druid means "tree fu*ker" and was an insult created by the Romans.

Awe, that's cute..where did you get your information from???

Regardless to the plethia of information provided here by others. Religions are a major reason for war. Religions do not want you to believe it but they are. And even if it was not out right war, religions have caused a lot of blood on the ground throughout history and still to this day.

Religions are often used as an excuse for war or bloodshed, but you really have to look at the teachings of a religion to judge if the religion incites violence or if the religion was used as an excuse for violence.

spider, just by claiming to be right and true and the one and only way to heaven they are enciting a warring attitude. One cannot claim to be right and everyone else wrong at a level of religion and not be inciting war. Believers take this to heart. If they are right and everyone else is wrong and they die for the right, they have been told is right, they will willingly die, right? Justification for extreme violence is given solely on the fact their religion is the one true right religion. Look at the abortion clinic bomber...... he is justified right? Killed the killer, right? Religion at it's best there. Many more examples but I get upset by this one so I will leave it here.

Sort of like the way the United States was founded as a model for freedom, truth, justice, tolerance, and moral conduct, and what our government really does is swiftly crush our own indigenous peoples and then follow up with 2nd/3rd world countries, appropriating their land, draining them of resources and dignity just to support it's runaway military-industrial complex?
They hate us for our freedom!!!

The abortion clinic bombers and other extremists are rejected by the majority of Christians. Christianity has a long line of martyrs, including a large number of the people killed at Columbine. Even after seeing other children killed when they answered that they believed in God, the children continued to say "Yes, I believe in God." only to be shot and killed.

Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places

My enemy doesn't have flesh or blood. No person whom I can see and talk to is my enemy. Your average Christian believes this way, becuase it's a very basic teaching of Christianity.

Because I'm right, I understand that if I take anyones life, I have just removed that person's chance of being saved. I can't imagine a more terrible thing I could do. Killing a human is only acceptable in Christianity when it is done to save another's or my own life from violence. I hope that I am never put into the situation, because I don't know that I could kill someone even if my life were in danger.

What does that have to do with what I posted? Nada. This is a case of taking any shot, just so you can feel like you "won". I'm not trying to win, so congrats! Have a nice evening.

If that is the way you believe then that is good for you but I disagree that the average christian is non-judgemental. All it takes is for the judgement to get to a point of another is unworthy to live for their crimes and you have justification for death and the christian will feel justified in the end. Just as they do with the death penalty. They sit in your face and tell you another human deserves to die for their crime. This loving christian who does not judge others or so they say. This is judging at a godly level or at least in the christian god realm of godly level. Yet you will have many who will do it without barely a shrug. Another human deserved to die for their crimes, is that not inciteful of war? All you have to do is add a few more humans to that judgement and there is all out war.

More people have been killed in the name of Jesus Christ then any other person in history. Chew on that.

So? Point being? You just supported my position, people have used Christianity as an excuse to kill people. Show me where a Christian is taught to kill non-believers. Show me where Jesus said "kill in my name". It's not possible, so Christianity was an excuse for murder, not a reason.

More people have been killed in the name of Allah, but Allah isn't a person. More people have been killed by atheist regiemns (China, Russia, Vietnam, Cuba, Cambodia, Korea, etc). Don't believe me? Check a copy of Guiness World Records, it's in there. Or you could google "Democide" and do the research yourself.

I hear that a lot...Allah admits to being fooled by Jews, my God is all knowing. My God taught tolerance to outsiders, Allah's position on outsiders changed throughout the Koran. They aren't the same God. Why is it that theologians say "Judeo-Christian" and not "Judeo-Christian-Islam"? Because Islam has many marked differences between itself and Judaism / Christianity. Christianity is a cap stone upon Judaism, which doesn't contradict but rather clarifies Judaism.

Actually, I agree with Abra, though in gross generality... which is the root of the problem. We're ready to charge the tree f*cking, camel loving religious fanatic without questioning what makes us any superior... And this generation, trampled and crippled, will look over the cliff at those lemmings who came before and jump. Pthbbbb, how's that for pontification?

How can religion be more of a factor than the underlying circumstances? Religion is also a major reason for people feeding the poor, respect, and non violent resistance. As I said before religion is never the reason but an excuse, even between Palestine & Isreal.

As for Islam, someone who's never read the Qu'ran pretends to know an awful lot about Islam and what the Qu'ran says, but the truth is Salam;^]

Because religions are, have always been, and will always be, the most convenient, reliable vehicle for trundling ourselves off to war. They are the line in the sand, the delineation between cultures. They say, "you are different", they say, "you are wrong". They are consistently used by governments to exacerbate tension, and to rally cultures to armed violence in the name of one deity or another, and, throughout history, they have accomplished their role in an extremely efficient manner. Religions exist for one purpose, and one purpose only, and that is to CONTROL human beings. Religions are MAN-MADE. Even if the spiritual philosophy of an organised religion is basically beneficent, it will be warped, misinterpreted, redirected & manipulated by MEN, for their own purposes.

Religion is the excuse for just as much good as bad, of course the media only shows the bad because it brings in the ratings. Still, the religion is only the excuse to justify the actions of PEOPLE. Again I say, to focus on religion is to miss the true cause and sollution. There has been plenty of war without religion and if religion dissapeared tomorrow there would still be wars. Why? Because there will still be those who seek others land, others power and more importantly control over others resources. War is war, with or without religion;^]
