Why does universal health care have to be an exact replica of canadas? Besides, most canadians I've talked to have said otherwise. medicaid and medicare provide pretty good service, I see no reason a tax based system couldn't work;^] Well you're giving it away for free, so it'll be like the Canadians. And quite a few Canadian friends I have, come over the border to go to American hospitals, because the have no choice. Its a downward spiral really. You have no job, here's welfare. Have no heathcare, here's free healthcare. Have no freedom of choice, that's because it was taken from you. Do you know anything about medicaid/ medicare? There's plenty of choices within the program, choose your plan, choose your doctor, choose your treatment, etc etc etc. The only real bad thing is that it doesn't cover dental. I know too many parents who won't let their kids play sports because they can't afford the hospital bills when one of them gets hurt. Health care should be paid by taxes in my humble, to only look at "free" and say that means an exact replica of canadas system is to ignore the fine details that go into such a thing. It can work;^] So tax everything, make it so its not profitable for anyone to work in the states. You think we're shipping jobs overseas now, just wait until we get universal health care. You can't give something away and it not to cost way more than anybody ever thought. Hell, social security was only supposed to last a few years and they sunk that into a huge hole. How would you like free health care, that costs way more than it would if it weren't free? The problem is, the people that don't have health care are either not willing to work or can't work. There are plenty of jobs that people can get that offer ample healthcare, but suggesting that people actually work for something is becoming a thing of the past. Why work if you can have everything given to you? Or, you can work 9 to 5 & still not be able to afford to get sick. And the world isn't full of doers & do nothingers. Alot more complicated than that & just as social security is very much needed, so is universal coverage;^] |

Universal Health care has worked for hundreds of years in the military, and works well in Japan. It works well in Canada and most of Europe too. You just keep falling for the AMA's propoganda and lies!! Any one can see a doctor under Universal Health and get treated, including in hospital / clinic meds. Time of wait is the only problem and as Fanta stated it's because Doctors and nurses are recruited by American hospitals / clinics / HMO's. Those who go to the States for treatment do so because they don't want to wait not because treatment not available here. |

If the US had universal health care, it wouldnt do Canadas Docs any good to come here! They would stay in Canada and help Canadians! Bah, they wouldn't go back to canada, they'd go where they can make a living. doctor's spend so much money going to school, to learn how to save people and now they aren't worth paying good money for? Hell, teachers are one of the most important people in everyone's life, and now they're paid less than most entry level jobs. So if you want healthcare to go down the road of public education, I salute you and hope you never get sick. |

Waiting 6 months for a treatment that could save you life or go to the states and be sure it could save your life? Hmmm, hard decision there. |

John Edwards!!!
![]() Get the power away from corporations and back to the people and we could fix the rest. As long as corporations are allowed to buy politicians votes, we cant fix anything! John Edwards is the original thinker in this group of Pres hopefuls, and he has a real plan, (in writing), not just promises, but a bona-fide plan! Everyone else is a copy-cat. Talking about change with no clear plan on what change means. |

Talking about change with no clear plan on what change means. Only problem is, they'll be playing that psychotic episode Edwards had 4 years ago. And it doesn't matter what's in writing, because when you get elected, nothing you promised matters, just that you "try". |

Many of those who go to States are not doing so for life threatening problems. Unlike the many Americans who come here for their meds because the cost of meds is unreasonable there. Catfood for lunch or cheaper meds (breaking the law) and decent food. Hmmmm, hard decision there too. |
