Since the last debate question that I posted went so well decided to do it again. So here is the question?

With the cost of living rising, you are hearing more and more about people who are losing their homes. If you had the opportunity of owning a place big enough that would house say around 20 people would you share it? With friends? With family?

I don't think that I could handle that many people in one place, even if it was composed of only friends and family

Honest answers I love it

Ok what if you each had your own section of private living quarters including bathroom. The common rooms are the living room, dining room, kitchen, and laundry room.

You all pull together and share the bills in all aspects.

Would you then be able to share the home?

i would share it with friends...i think thats an excellent idea and after all my friends are family so it would work out great and just think of the expenses that would cut down for each individualhappy

I am not good with living with others, I would love to be able to but I have to have so much of my own space and stuff, I would be intolerable. So I would have to say no. Now if we all had seperate living quarters and only shared bills that would be like living in an apartment and I could probably do that.flowerforyou

can't we just be neighbors?

I love the honest answers, and can see both sides of the answers.

I understand the need for privacy, and also understand about the medical aspects that for some would make this impossible.

If you were going to do this, what type of rules would be needed for the house?

nothing pisses me off more than RULES...well maybe LIARS
the only reason for a rule is to see how fast i can break ithappy

Sort of to answer your question...

I have a very small home, but do a lot of volunteer work with homeless youth. Street kids, if you want to call it that. During very nasty winter months, I've occasionally provided homes for some at the suggestion of the shelter I work with, knowing that they've checked them out very thoroughly before ever calling me! There has always been a "plan" with everyone agreeing on the details, and has never been open-ended. (Meaning there was always a move-out, move-on date in place...)

The experience has had it's challenges, but all in all has been successful. I'm sure the housing arrangement you've suggested would have contracts, written rules, and lease agreements for all concerned. Sharing space is more common in other countries than the US, and should be encouraged as a means of conservation if nothing else!

ahh I agree Bgeorge, the one thing I can't abide is a liar. Would you need rules in a house like this, or could all live together rule free?

What if a member of the house is a nudist. Would it be okay for that member to sit in the living room watching a show with everyone else naked?

I can only live with one person at a time, and that will have to be Gem. We may have pets -- llamas, or baboons, or styracosauruses. I'm basically reclusive.

I have lived communally on and off within my lifetime.

We have a homeless man residing in my garage as we speak, he's been here since early November, and we have had many families stay with us.

We have also lived on Multiple occupancy properties, and shared houses.

One of my dreams was a large piece of land, and a communal living space, with modules, for private quarters, satellited out from it.

A collective of single mum families, working communally for their financial betterment.

I am looking for 1 or 2 roomers, right now.
House way to big, but saving it for the kids.
