Where would online communication be without internet slang such as LOL or LMAO ? LOL and LMFAO predate the internet as they were originally used on BBSes Bulletin Board Systems in the meshed dialup era. Do you have a favourite ? <G> which basically meant 'grin' and didn't make its way over though; and how i pine for the old days, life was much simpler back then.. two genders. |

Back in the day when people wrote letters, and your long distance love interest lived across town, we use to use acronyms in our romantic correspondence. I remember SWALK, (Sealed With A Loving Kiss) ITALY, (I Truly Always Love You), then their were the other ones, EGYPT, CHINA, NORWICH, and many more we used after a few dates. (Not always well received by girlfriends). I believe these originated in the UK during WW2, when soldiers and sweethearts wrote to each other, certainly avoided any censorship in letters from soldiers in theatres of war. My internet favourite is the smiley face:-).

I use emoji's or codes when it is harmless banter but if I like someone I will tell them in understandable words.

Slang?
I always write in proper English vernacular. And, occasionally in Russian. Harrrrumph! |
