The surgery part should be done now.
I waited until she was almost completely asleep. I didn't want the poor thing to be alone in a strange place with strangers, basically dumping her and leave. I was not allowed in the treatment room due to the pandemic situation but they brought her to me after she'd had the anaesthetic. They do that in a muscle with cats as that is less stressful for them than directly in blood flow. It then does take longer to work so I saw her slowly fall asleep. When she was almost completely out she rested her face on her nose and I didn't like the idea of her breath being obstructed. So that's when I had them take her away. I should be able to pick her up around 3, provided she can keep her own temperature up and is properly awake. I got her some nice meat for tonight. fingers crossed she'll eat it as she got real fussy with wet meat. I decided to not do the elastic t-shirt thing. That is not standard as it isn't really necessary. My girl's kittens didn't have that either and they licked the wound once to clean, then left it alone. And since it's not really necessary, and me thinking she's not going to be too pleased with it either, I told them to not do it. She will be chipped too btw. First time I decided to go for that with a cat. So far I'm really happy with the people. Both the assistant and vet were really nice and patient with both my Nila and me, hahaha. Not that I was nervous oddly enough, but concerned for my Nila, yes! But I'm liking this vet, so far. They're an island up north, but they're only 3 minutes further away than the other one in town on this island, I may stick with this new one :) Now it's waiting time... |

Iβm sure all will be fine with Nila and sheβll be back home in no time.

They phoned at half past 3 and 45 mins later we got back home.
The minute I unlocked the frontdoor she started meowing, haha. Up till that moment she'd been totally quiet. Then she got out of the basket, walking with stiff hind legs/back and swaying a tiny bit but not much. Then she did short fast runs :o then licking her belly, then walking/running, back to licking, and so on. She didn't get an elastic thing as the vet said that wasn't necessary and usually only annoys/upsets them. It's not handy if she does 'wild' things and not on taller cat trees. And of course li'l fiery Miss kittie wanted to go up there --> her fave sleeping basket is on top tier of that climbing tree, so I had to remove it from the living room. Had to get the foldable handtruck out for that as it's too heavy to drag all the way through the room. Then it was jumping on my lap, only to jump right off, me telling her to not do that kind of stuff. So she was very restless, and I guess it doesn't hurt too much because she's had painkillers. She ate something though, drank a lot, then slowed down a bit as if she was dozing while sat up. And now... she FINALLY curled up to sleep, on a chair so still jumping, grmble... But at least she's resting now! And so am I Glad she did eat and it didn't come out as she looks unbelievably skinny, as if she's not been fed for over a week :o She is very slender, so this not eating since midnight does show? |

February 12th was the day to let Nila go outdoors for the first time!
As freaky for me as it was for her, hihi. She was curious but didn't run out the door, she was quite overwhelmed. Any loud sound or even a stronger wind over her head would have her run back indoors again, hihi. The second day she just sat in the open doorway, sniffing, probably thinking, "OMG what is this??" Eventually she carefully dared venture out about 1,5 meters from the door and then ran back inside. I kept going outdoors with her every day -except for when we had those 3 storms. She's getting used to it now, and she likes it! As a matter of fact, whenever I now put on my shoes she begins meowing and starts hassling me as she wants to go outside in the garden, haha. It took some time but she's now discovering the entire garden of some 14x17 meters. Yesterday she went to where my other cat Bramble was hiding under the hedge and he ran out to chase after her. She went back to him each time, same thing with him chasing after her. So I have to keep an eye on that for a while as clearly he feels territorial! And I had difficulty getting her back inside yesterday. It was almost time to close the door, but she wasn't in. I can call out but she doesn't seem to hear, too caught up in all the wonderful things out there, hihi. Thank goodness she came back of her own accord not much later and I quickly closed the door. Yep, I'm not entirely comfortable with it myself yet. But to be honest, it's a joy to see her outside, running and jumping and sniffing everything! Having the space and freedom. |

Delighted to hear that she enjoys a wee stroll in the garden
At some stage, she might even bring some presents |

Unless she brings pressies from a crystal shop I'm not going to be chuffed about that, hahaha!
OT -- emergency trip to the vets with Nila! She came storming downstairs, clawed on my lap (ouch!), jumped off, her heart was racing, and she kept running around, licking herself, running again etc. I couldn't work out what was up, checked her body, spine etc. Checked upstairs, nothing that could've scared her, and she was really upset. Then I saw her left front paw was very swollen. Damn! I tried to feel it which she of course wasn't happy about. I decided to call the vet. Then getting her in her travel basket, bloody 'ell! No time to do that the easy way as the vet was about to close. It was quite the struggle and she wasn't happy with me. Long story short, nothing broken, no wounds so likely nothing in it. No higher temperature. All she could find was the place of pain a bit higher up her leg. She likely got her leg caught or stuck on something upstairs, lord knows what as she's been roaming around there for months with no problem. Now she has a liquid painkiller that should reduce swelling too and it's keeping an eye on it. If it gets worse we gotta go back. And there was me deciding to let my bank account recover, having to pay the vet. E57, how wonderful, hihi. But rather had it checked out than risk some infection/inflammation. Now back to relaxing as I was quite off-kilter myself too. I've dealt with wounds on my adult cats, no problemo, as long as they don't get sick, I always take care of that myself. Always worked out so far. But this... oh well. Fingers crossed it is indeed a bad bruising and nothing more! |

I wish that little mite a speedy and full recovery
Anyway, everybody who has outdoor cats can imagine, which presents I always get from my cats ... Lucifer is a real expert here |

Thank you, I hope she'll recover quick too! Hoping the swelling will be down a little bit tomorrow already.

Well, the swelling has gone down a lot! As good as normal again?!
She puked a lot this night though so I think maybe the liquid painkiller made her feel sick? Although it's odd that happened hours later. But 5 places of puke... that's a lot for such a li'l thing! She's very slender as it is, hihi. Have you ever had that, Larsi? Cats puking after meds? I'm not experienced with that you see. I was in two minds about her giving it -she didn't even ask me- but if it works on swelling & inflammation it's an NSAID. That's not easy on the stomach, at least not for us humans. |

In fact, my first cat was in a bad way after I wormed him. He was bringing up blood and disappeared for over 2 days which heβd never done before. I actually thought he went away to die somewhere. He did return thankfully and I vowed never to use that treatment again. Love the pics of Nila! |

I thought some was also with a little blood as it wasn't all clear liquid but a bit reddish. Never seen that from my other cats. Total of 4 spots of liquid and 1 of solid food, so basically she emptied her entire stomach overnight. I will keep that in mind in case she ever needs painkillers again and will tell the vet that an NSAID -which I assume it was- isn't handy. For us humans it's advised to take a stomach protector first, then wait a few hours before the NSAID. So to just put that in a kitten's stomach... Oh well... The worm pills I used a few weeks back were okay, thank goodness! If worm pills have that an effect it does get freaky! Thank goodness your cat came back. |

Maybe that makes the meds better digestable. |

I tried that with worm pills the other day, but like most of the cats I have and have had, she didn't fall for it. Ate the food, left the pill, haha. But in this case it was liquid, vet put it directly in her mouth and she simply swallowed it. I told the vet about it and they made a note on her chart. Ifever she'd need it again they will give her an injection so it doesn't go through the stomach (NSAID is real bad on the stomach). The blood could be if she puked a lot that a small vein ruptured or throat got a li'l raw or something. So far she's fine, no more throwing up so I take it it was just that painkiller. |
