Driving through town today, nearly every store/shop has a Help Wanted
sign out front..Taco Bell was offering a start rate of $16 an hour
just to get you to talk to them.

Jobs are going begging. My mate went into work at 4:30pm and he just
called to say they are closing the Casino for 2 weeks (again) paid
(again.) 2 unvaccinated co-workers got the variant.

Your town have extra jobs they cannot fill?

just being synical, but, it is kinda hard to convince them to go to work, when they can sit at home, and get un employment + 2-300.on top of it.

it use to be, that if you were called in to work, you had to go to the interview or show proof you looked for work to keep your unemployment.
now it is a machine that asks if you looked for work, yes or no. yes , gets you your check.

It’s kinda like that here in my town in the Uk , many places advertising for workers , but also still hard for people to get those jobs too , which is crazy .

I guess I just never expected the outcome of the pandemic to be..too many jobs.
What are the requiring in the UK to get the jobs?

For decades employers have been treating workers as cheap easily replaceable cogs in the machine. It's payback time!!!!

Indeed. Even before the virus hit our shores, my company had difficulties filling vacancies. Seems, people prefer Monday-Friday 9-5 jobs whoa

Seems, too, if someone wants to work, they have some serious
choices right now.

I know many who went the unemployment route when
offered more to stay home. Personal choice I guess.

People here are crying out to work , companies are crying out for workers .
Those who want to work are willing to do whatever but then the companies refuse them the job , it’s like they are wanted rocket scientists or something or just being ultra picky and I mean this for like shop work , cafes etc , which to me seems crazy , if they are desperate for workers why not give them a chance

You would think keeping the shops open would be a priority..
are there prejudices involved//age, color, religion etc?

I don't know with office jobs but restaurants and the like have difficulty getting staff. But I believe that was already the case 1-2 yrs before the pandemic.

I think youngsters prefer to have a job that doesn't require them to work crazy hours. Restaurant business often means working 12-14 hrs a day, no contract (seasonal here), 6 days a week for months on end.
My son's done that for 7 years. By the end of summer he was totalled.

When my girl came back from the US a few years back she needed work and it was easy for her. Even well-paid office jobs, and changing to another one 2x that seemed better and more interesting. And getting the money she wanted.
All that while not having diplomas in the field of expertise, all her colleagues do! And everyone saying there's no work. She proved this is not true.

I think like Motown says the market has changed, which happens every so often: from employers market to employees market.
And to be honest, it was damned long overdue!

Dunno where you live but over here it's not like that.

1 - Youngsters do work, often at age 12 outside of long days at school!!

2 - Unemployment isn't much and short time only and certainly not +2300 on top of it.

3 - You do have to show proof of applying for work, there's a minimum amount you have to do. If you don't meet it you get both a serious fine and your benefit gets cut for a few months.

Also, how do you manage to post and have it say "0 posts"?????

I'm seeing good wages being offered for
jobs that were aimed at kids. I mean , when
places like KFC is offering 15 bucks to start, and they still have the banner up a month later. the only reason I can think of not working, is because their being paid not to .

I dont know about out side the US.
yes, some young people are willing to work.( child labor laws prevent minors under 16 from working out side a family business.) same with older people.
but I know people that have been on unemployment for over a year, and have also not been paying rent. because of the government mandates preventing evection for non payment.
I know small property owners that have put their rentals up for sale, because they cant cover the property taxes as well, because those rents have not been paid for over a year.
the jobs are there if people want them. but their currently, getting paid pretty well for not working.
I mentioned they are also receiving 2-3 hundred dollars on top of their regular unemployment( not 2300.

KFC is paying $12 hour here but yes I agree about your statement. Who in there right mind would work their butt off when they get paid the same rate on unemployment. Not right but smart I think.

I read about a teenager who got a job at a fast-food restaurant
at a good salary and bought a house, rates are so low
to borrow and his work is steady..all you need.
