Sometimes I do reply to simple hi as well. Not all messages are send my scammers. There are people there who struggle to start a conversation. So you have to consider that into account as well

Sometimes I reply out of courtesy and ethics. Same here, mostly out of interest, courtesy, ethics, and manners... If my mum was alive and I didn't answer or say thanks, I'd get a clip round the ear 🤣

I figure if people don't have a picture, they must be ugly. Heck, if I can put a picture on here, everyone else can.
