Sometime a lack of imagination will cause people to judge prematurely because they don't have the ability to come up with (ENDLESS) reasonable explanations.I will often keep my mask on if I am going from my workplace straight to the grocery store. I simply don't feel like drenching my hands in disinfectant to take my mask off, only to put it back on before entering the store. I will still keep it on if I have to make another stop on my way home.

well around here in Mumbai if the cars at signal are found with people without masks the clean up guys do fine unmasked people for Rs 200 immediately ($3). Maybe the Government wants us to be protective or behave in a manner can be debatable. after this pandemic mask would be a fashionable element of dressing eg:- matching colour mask to suit an outfit.
Well when we didn't knew the impact and reach of the virus we all geared ourselves with quite number of precautions be it mask, gloves or headgears & glasses. Now, just because we have found a stepping stone to success by vaccination or herd immunity or likely have we crossed the wave of epidemic. Seems to make us careless!

A couple of these studies are N95 vs surgical masks - but the ones people wear are neither of them. A pair of dirty socks are just as effective - they just don't have the same virtue signaling optics that those toilet paper or designer ones people wear.
