Topic: How real are you and I? | |

What you say in a forum, like Mingle2, is it what you would say to people in day to day, face to face living?
Do you feel you represent yourself accurately, as much as can be, when on the internet? Would you say what you say on the forums, in real life? |

It never occurred to me to be anything but real, least not until I started reading others comments about those who do misrepresent themselves.
It's much simpler to be who I am, than to keep up with a charade. So yes, I would say I represent myself accurately. Pretty much anything I say in the forums, I would say in the face to face world. If anything, I sometimes refrain from saying something online that I would say in the face to face world because it might be taken wrong, due to the lack of body language in the virtual world. |

Mostly. For my own safety I hide my nonbinary identity from parents, who call it 'in style'

Mostly. For my own safety I hide my nonbinary identity from parents, who call it 'in style' I am real. However, I am not stagnant. I adapt. In this forum, the threats from the unstable amongst us are not so pressing or immediate, so I am less reluctant to give a less popular opinion for fear of social or physical retaliation. In person, I do not rock the boat, aggravate anyone, because you just never know and there seems to be alot more of the emotionally unstable sorts of folks these days. I kind of just remain agreeable or silent as my default positions. |

100% truth ,no fillers.
As Riverspirit points out nuance is missing when writing for strangers around the world on the internet.Polite and non confrontational in the forums. We all want to fit in.So I guess I do pull my punches. An email would get slightly more specific and perhaps personally revealing. I don't text.Still formal though. Back to polite and avoiding conflict in a face to face w/ a stranger in day to day small talk stuff...retail clerk, mailman, neighbor etc. Person to person at the kitchen table I'd feel more comfortable exposing more truthful personal info and the language may or may not include profanity and sarcasm. Eye contact and tone of voice very helpful. But still no BS. Embellishing or trying to deceive is WAY bad karma. We all hate to be lied to. Nearly every woman's(completed) profile here states that. Summary: I won't insult your intelligence by lying. & lying to me tells me you think I'm stoopid. A deal breaker. "Just gimme some truth". |

I am real Oh yeah, msharmony? Then let's meet so that you can prove it. |

In real life I am part of an inter-dependent society. I act like my place in society and I keep personal stuff to myself, unless explanation is needed in order to function. Here online I am more open about myself.

For the most part yes. Although in here i have to keep it with in the PG-13 rating. And i do call people retards a lot less in the forums.

As I've gotten older I learned to speak my mind. When I was a teen or my 20's, I was too timid. I will tell it how I think and feel on here and in my everyday life.

I am more cheerful in real life. I very seldom swear .. when I slip on icy street, or hit my finger with a hammer, I say "Chit"!!! with an S, of course.
I don't really push people off the cliff.. people who annoy me I avoid like the plague. I am not sarcastic in person.. I am not that smart lol. ok, that's all I can think of right now. Happy New Year, Ladywind |

Yes and no. Online forum is not offline day to day, face to face living. The situation/conditions dictate a lot. Do you feel you represent yourself accurately, as much as can be, when on the internet?
I didn't think that was necessary or even desired. I would think that would only really matter if "on the internet" is pretty much your entire reason for existing and/or your only means of social interaction/support. Other than that, IMO, the internet only facilitates your ability/desire to develop a shallow avatar to avoid having a deeper personality. Would you say what you say on the forums, in real life?
Yes and no. If someone came to my house and posted "why don't older women like younger men? Isn't age just a number?" on my door, I would take it down and while eating my morning cereal sit there and come up with something to say off the top of my head, write it down, then throw the post away, and think about or do something else until I was done with my cereal. Otherwise, it would be a conversation, and those have a tendency to be far more interactive and fluid. |

I'm much much much worse offline. Think taking 1000 goody powders with no water.
Just being honest. I wouldn't even be allowed on line, much less here. Many Years ago, I was at one time, too wild-silly for most towns, and been told to leave a few that were conservative in the past. Frankfort Michigan was one, Traverse City Michigan, was another one. There were a couple in the outskirts of Chicago. I was never drunk or on drugs. That just wasn't for me, but I'd climb buildings and do other slapstick stuff. This was WAAAY before Parkour as a sport. I also sound like the hick from hell. I have a thick raspy cross accent, Louisiana-Chicago-Alabama-Florida with Russian and Morocco touches now and then. I sound extremely unintelligent,(because I'm not intelligent) and I'm also very slow thinking. (I have tons of time to think before I write here) Funny thing.... I can write similar to Samuel Clemens if I put my mind to pictures, and be channeled... it's weird that it flows, so I have a hard time thinking it's actually me doing it. No thesaurus, nothing. I find this very strange. So it must not be. I refuse to give myself credit. I would if I thought I deserved it. I do like the result though, I can't lie. I NEVER bother people. I let them be. I will help if needed or asked, but disappear immediately after when their head is turned. I'm very scary looking in person also, so I'm amazed that people ask me anything. My life is brutal very very heavy work, very long hours, then sleep, then dream that I'm working even more brutally in my sleep, then I get up and go to work... That's it. |

I am not surprised at your comment here. You have a genuiness that is rare and truly precious. I guess that is just the beauty of River |
