Topic: I believe in Christ - just not sure I like him very much | |
---|---|
Here's why:
1) Merciful? I don't think he showed his own son a whole lot of mercy having him hang up there and die horribly. Couldn't he have thought of a better way to go? That was sadistic. 2) Forgiving? Just because Eve ate the apple, now we can't talk to the animals, feel naked without clothes, and have terrible pain during childbirth. I didn't even know that ***** - why is he making me suffer for what she did after all these years? 3) What kind of loving God would let so many innocent animals and people suffer so much so often? Its all a test of faith? Its sick. 4) There are just way too many wonderful things happening to bad people and too many bad things happening to good people. Why is that? God put demons on the earth to test our faith? That is ridiculous - why would he do that to the good people??? okay your turn |

I’m not a believer, but for whatever it’s worth,…
The blood and guts of the crucifixion was a ploy to make people feel guilty. Here’s a perfectly innocent “man” who died for your sins, by CHOICE!!! How arrogant can you possibly be to reject him????? It’s the ultimately coercing brainwashing scheme by authoritarians who were desperate to get the people under their thumb. What better way than to take a martyr from an oppressed time, make him into a god, create a church that is supposed to represent his body, and then prey on the guilt of the innocent people to make them grovel at the feet of the church? As you point out, a real supreme being would never be so sadistic and petty. There are far too many inconsistencies in the Bible for it to have been divinely inspired. It was clearly written by men to control the masses using guilt, shame, and fear. And of course they claim that god is all-loving too, but only if that will work. As soon as that doesn’t work then they turn to demonic side of God and try using the fear factor. The whole religion is a “Have your cake and eat it too” brainwashing scheme. It even has you bringing your newly born babies in to be baptized by the church thus “removing” their original sin. No one escapes! Denounce the religion and you go to hell with shame, disgrace, and the self-centered arrogance that you have displayed by rejecting this perfect man who died for your sins!!! There are so many absurdities that I don’t even want to bother listing them. The only thing you can be sure of is this,… if it was God’s plan to come to earth and get nailed on a cross then no man could stop that plan. People always talk about free will, but according to the tales there’s never any free will to begin with. God has it all worked out and humans are just puppets in the scheme of thing. That is, if you believe that a God wrote the story!!! Far too many people can’t climb out of that box! Once outside of the box, it’s clear to see the malicious intent of the MEN who wrote these stories!!! It’s a brainwashing scheme that is so profound that it’s still coasting on its own momentum even today! Look at how many proselytizers there are!!! It’s the epitome of brainwashing schemes! Plus, it's not even unique! These kinds of stories were common place in all of the Mediterranean mythologies. People who believe this story denounce all the others as being myths. But why? They were all earlier in time! http://www.pocm.info/getting_started_pocm.html How any genuinely intelligent modern man can believe in this mythology in light of the historical fact that these kinds of stories were commonplace in Mediterranean mythology is totally beyond me. The story is clearly a manmade myth. No doubt about it. |

I mean why would he do that - Its like he's trying to turn us against him. |

3) Why is he letting Satan governing now? I mean why would he do that - Its like he's trying to turn us against him.
That’s not the way things are. There is no such thing as sin and evil. Those are manmade concepts. What we call evil is simply anything we don’t like. The fact is that life simply wouldn’t be any fun if it weren’t for the fact that things go wrong. It’s the challenging nature of life that gives it meaning. What would it mean to accomplish something, if there was nothing to overcome? How could anything produce a thrill if there isn’t something to risk? A perfect life would be utterly boring with no meaning whatsoever. There would be nothing to work toward because if anything required an effort it would be less than ‘perfect’. God created the universe just as it is within boundaries. Things can go wrong. People can’t do ‘bad’ things. But ‘bad’ is a relative term. All God’s ways are judgments. Not by judging us, but by allowing us to judge our reality. God built-in the boundaries. No one tolerates more pain than they can deal with, even if they might think they can’t, it’s not true. God made it so that the human body will go into shock if we can’t handle the pain, or even die outright. But there is no such thing as death. No one really dies. You didn’t come into this life when you were born. You are spirit. You have always been around. You existed before you body was were born, and you will exist after you’re body dies. There is no heaven or hell. All there is, is life. Eternal reincarnation. I’m not making this up. This is the basis of many Eastern mystical religions. It’s the pantheistic view that the universe is god and we are a child of the universe. A child of God. God isn’t an egotistical jealous dictator in the sky waiting to pass judgments on all the little separate egos that he has created. That egotistical view of God as a king who rules over a kingdom is medieval mythology created by men who thought in terms of kings and kingdoms. The dream of ruling over people is an egotistical dream of man. Why would God want to rule over humans? Why would God be obsessed with the thought of men bowing down and worshiping him and becoming his servants? Why would God need servants? Isn’t God supposed to be all powerful??? In the pantheistic view God is this universe. God gave us the gift of life so that we can give to God the gift of living it. God experience life through us. Every thought, emotions, and experience we gave, God has through us. God is omniscient though us, and through all living things, and even non-living things in the universe. The pantheistic view is a much more loving God. Her love is truly unconditional. No one can ever be separated from God. No one goes to hell. There’s no need for any such place. The pantheistic God is with us every moment of out lives. She came along for the ride. Pantheism. It’s not just for breakfast anymore! http://www.pantheism.net/ By the way, this link is merely an example of what pantheism is about, I’m not necessarily supporting this link or any other specific organization. |

1) Merciful? I don't think he showed his own son a whole lot of mercy having him hang up there and die horribly. Couldn't he have thought of a better way to go? That was sadistic. God's laws cannot be changed. God decided that anyone who commits a sin must die, physically and spiritually. God's mercy is that God allowed Jesus to die for our sins. This is the same thing as a judge allowing another to pay our fine. Jesus took the sins of those who believe in him to the grave. 2) Forgiving? Just because Eve ate the apple, now we can't talk to the animals, feel naked without clothes, and have terrible pain during childbirth. I didn't even know that ***** - why is he making me suffer for what she did after all these years? There is only one talking animal in the Bible, that is Balaam's donkey. Adam and Eve both sinned and because of that, they no longer deserved to live in a perfect universe. The universe was created for mankind to live in, so the whole universe was changed so that it was no longer perfect. This is the law of unintended consequences. Adam and Eve's actions effected the entire universe and everything that will ever live in it. 3) What kind of loving God would let so many innocent animals and people suffer so much so often? Its all a test of faith? Its sick. It's all a test of faith, but it's not like God creates the tests. God judges how we react to the things that happen to us. 4) There are just way too many wonderful things happening to bad people and too many bad things happening to good people. Why is that? God put demons on the earth to test our faith? That is ridiculous - why would he do that to the good people??? God loves everyone, not just the good or the bad. Regardless, suffering and happiness are limited. How long will a bad persons good luck help them after they die? They will experiance suffering, while the good person who suffered in life will spend eternity in happiness. Your question also touches on spiritual warfare, which I don't feel qualified to discuss. I understand the issues, but I don't know that I am in any place to teach that lesson. |

1. God's laws cannot be changed.
2. God decided that anyone who commits a sin must die, physically and spiritually. 3. God's mercy is that God allowed Jesus to die for our sins. Number three contradicts number one. God hanged his unchangeable laws. Pure and simple. The only thing consistent about the religion is its inconsistencies. It a “have your cake and eat it too” religion. Not only that, but it’s claimed that Jesus didn’t really die! Yet another inconsistency. He “died” to pay for sins of man but didn’t really died. The checked bounced! Just more of the “have your cake and eat it too” mentality. The religion can’t be made to make sense because the inconsistencies are so overwhelming that it’s pure absurdity. Every ‘explanation’ just introduces yet another inconsistency. They go on and on and on, ad infinitum. |

Every ‘explanation’ just introduces yet another inconsistency. They go on and on and on, ad infinitum. From the beginning, God allowed for a substitution for the punishment. We see that Cain and Abel were sacrificing to the Lord. Sacrifice was the shadow of Jesus. Sacrifice was done, before Jesus' crucifixion as a symbol of faith that God would supply a sacrifice. Jesus died physically, that hasn't changed. Jesus didn't die spiritually, that hasn't changed. There is no contradiction. Christians believe in two types of death. Phyical and spiritual. Everyone dies physically, not everyone must die spirtually. The resurrection was the union of Jesus' spirit and body to create a perfect and incorruptable body. Until the resurrection, the spirit dwells within the body. After the resurrection, the body and spirit are one. If you actually tried to learn about Christianity instead of trying to find hole, even if you didn't become a Christian, at least you would be so offensive to Christians. |

Jesus didn't die spiritually, that hasn't changed. There is no contradiction.
Oh but there is a contradiction. You initially said,… 1. God's laws cannot be changed. 2. God decided that anyone who commits a sin must die, physically and spiritually. 3. God's mercy is that God allowed Jesus to die for our sins. And now you are claiming that Jesus didn’t die spiritually Sorry hon, but that’s a contradiction to the idea that the laws cannot be changed which was your original premise. If you actually tried to learn about Christianity instead of trying to find hole, even if you didn't become a Christian, at least you would be so offensive to Christians.
I’m knowledgeable of Christianity in-depth, and this is why I know that the mythology is inconsistent. You seem to always be trying to make out like as if people who don’t believe in Christianity simply haven’t studied it. Nothing could be further from the truth. I’ve studied the religion for over 40 years. In fact, just the other day I had to set you straight on the interpretation of Job. You told me that my interpretation held no merit yet it wasn’t my interpretation at all. It was the religion’s own most popular interpretation. And now you have the audacity to suggest that I need to learn about the religion? No one should be offended by my conclusions concerning a 2000 year-old mythology. I’m simply addressing the history of humanity. Why anyone would take personal offense to an honest assessment of history is completely beyond me. All the writings of man are open to question and the Bible holds no special place in the literature of men. This is my perspective. If you find that to be personally offensive there isn’t much I can do about it. I’m used to hanging around scholars and academia where the intellectual pursuit of truth is openly accepted. |

Its funny how Satan does so much evil in the world and then everyone points the finger at God..... If you believe the fairytale, the all-powerful God has given Satan permission to wreck havoc. Pointing the finger at God would be no different than pointing the finger at the Godfather of a mob for what he allows his hit-men to do. It's a natural conclusion to blame the man who's really in charge. Personally, I don't buy into the fairytale to begin with, so there are no contradicitons in my world. |

God did not make us into robots we have a choice and just because people choose to do evil we cant point the finger at God.. I've done alot of wrong things in my life not because of God or the satan but because its what I WANTED to do..Thanks be to God he has gottin me out of trouble even when I didnt deserve his love or grace and for that I will always be grateful and forever in his debt :) Miracles and Blessing to all! |

I didn't know you cared! There is no contradiction, because Jesus died a physical death (everything in our universe dies a physical death), but did Jesus sin? No, so Jesus overcame death. If you actually tried to learn about Christianity instead of trying to find hole, even if you didn't become a Christian, at least you would be so offensive to Christians.

Yeah, seven years ago, before new information came to light five years ago. It was outdated information. Just admit that and move on. I have been a Christian (as you are SO fond of pointing out) only a year and I frequent the most up to date apologetics sites. So I never saw that flawed interpretation. I’m simply addressing the history of humanity. Why anyone would take personal offense to an honest assessment of history is completely beyond me. This is my perspective. Yeah, seven years ago, before new information came to light five years ago.
The so-called “new information’ that you are referring to isn’t even accepted by serious theologians. That information is clearly crack-pot radicalism. But whatever. You are more than welcome to believe whatever you like. Once again you just side-stepped the fact that your original premise didn’t match up with your conclusion. I don’t care what you believe, but when you post supposedly ‘logical’ explanations for your ideas I think they are open for anyone to point out the logical inconsistencies. I did that for the sake of anyone who might have been interested. |

If religion was a "Do whatever and still recieve salvation", would this really be religion? Should we not have consequences for our actions. Shouldnt we as humans get punished for our betryal?
