Taking all the tins and jars out of the gas cooker in my holiday home for an annual gas check, I don't use it as a cooker but as a cupboard, I do not feel safe with gas cooker and flames,there is an induction hob and air cooker on top of it We're going to be forced to cook electrically within a few years. Government is going nuts here. I'm not happy about it, more work to the home to install that, and I will have to buy a new cooker AND new pans. I haven't money for either. if the gov't is forcing the change then they can buy the replacement stove. as for pots and pans why would you need to buy new ones? the old ones will work just as well on an electric as they did in gas |

And yes, you need new pots and pans. The bottoms aren't flat enough anymore after cooking on gas which renders them unusable for electric cooking. |

ok seamus maybe for the induction stoves. they are not common at all here in the states yet so i am clueless as to their needs.
and all i can say to bent bottom pans is i have never in my life own one chintzy enough to warp in normal use |

I have an induction hob and I hate it with a passion. I had to buy expensive pots and pans to use it.
The problem is that the hob has 4 cooking zones (obviously) and the total output is 12 so that means if you have all 4 zones on, each zone will only have a maximum of output of 3! Not very clever when you want 2 pots boiling as it takes too long getting it to boiling point. That's like using a gas hob on the lowest setting when all you want is the pot to come to the boil quickly. Also, the smallest pan (even though it's the correct recommended pan) isn't recognised by the hob as the diameter of it is too small, therefore the hob doesn't recognise there's a pan on the zone. I hate the induction hob for these reasons. |

here in the states even the smooth top electric ranges are resistance heating elements so while it is still slower to change and less controllable than a gas flame, they don't need special pans.

the kicker there crystal is that it almost always costs more and pollutes more to generate electricity and ship it down wires to point of use. however
those that make it can see a much larger profit from electricity and the pollution is hidden |

How did that work out with the forced change from CRT to LCD TVs? Who bought the digital antennas? Remember the push to get the 'old' technology cars off the roads? LoJacking only really works with electronic systems. Sold as a theft prevention and recovery feature it also allows anyone with the technology to track your movements. Coupled with On-Star technology and they can even shut your vehicle down remotely. Don't even think about what can be done with cellphones and smart phones. That is just too damn scary. Electric can be generated by movement (turbines, windmills, piezo), solar energy conversion or thermal energy conversion. Coal, gas and petroleum are depleting resources from natural reservoirs caused by decaying organics. In a world trying to stop depending on fossil fuels, electrical energy makes the most sense. As long as the energy comes from other than fossil fuel burning. |
